Weird account issue

This is strange - I have used 14,000 miles recently but I have flown more recently - the online account page shows the 'debit' at the bottom rather than the more recent 'credit' for flights - not realy and issue except that the points expiry date is taken from the entry at the bottom :- (;like this)

26 Jul 2005 Virgin Atlantic, LGW-LAS Upper Class 10,448 5
31 Jul 2005 Virgin Atlantic, LAS-LGW Upper Class 10,448 5
05 Mar 2006 Reward: milesplusmoney, LGW-MCO Economy rtn -14,000 0

I'm not going to worry for a couple of years though:D

Looks about right to me. All future reward bookings are debited from your account immediately, but posted with the reward date rather than the day it was booked.

As you've seen - it's handy, as it extends your account activity from the date of the reward, not the date you booked it ;)

Ah ...yes Stupid me[:o)]

From the date of the reward NOT the date of Debit !

And yes - 7 MPM fares which is 5 adults at £284 and 2 kids at £206 - which I thought was pretty good:D

There have been a couple of debates on the value of MpM fares, but this doesn't look bad if you're not bothered about the loss of miles and TPs. I assume your figures don't include taxes and fuel surcharge and, if that is the case, the cheapest equivalent revenue-only fare LGW-MCO in March 06 is a QLXGB Fare Basis Round-Trip fare of 347.00 (GBP).

Best wishes

David

They do include tax and I don't know about the surcharges - can these be added after payment?

I thought that might be the case, so you've effectively saved a fair bit by using MpM. Taxes and surcharges are £108.90 per ticket, so the cheapest revenue-only fare in March 06 is the Q Fare Basis I highlighted above at £455.90 (all inclusive). On your adult tickets therefore, (I don't know the deal for children's tickets) you've saved £172 on each one, at a cost of 10672 FC miles each (2K for each ticket, and 8672 you would have received on a full-rev fare), and 4 Tier Points.

Past discussions on this have been about whether the savings in economy justify the cash-cost and loss of earned miles on MpM fares. And bear in mind that in some cases the MpM fares are actually more expensive than the cheapest discounted economy tickets, though not in this case. For many of us who crave miles for upgrades and UC reward flights, MpM doesn't work. But with this size of party, and if the loss of miles is ok with you, then I'd say you've done well here. :D

Best wishes

David
