From my past few experiences with VA, I have realized that they are very strict with the 70lbs luggage weight restriction. Is there a scale out there that can be purchased to accurately weigh suitcases? I tried using the typical home body scale but the reading was off since the entire bag does not rest on the scale.

But surely it doesnt just measure the weight of the part of the bag that is resting on the scales???

Maybe you could weigh yourself and then get on the scales holding your case. Then you just need to work out the difference to get to the weight of your case.

Ah yes, the classic way of weighing babies without one of those scales they have in baby clinics.

I once saw a woman getting on a weighing scales in a chemist shop. She was obviously unhappy with what she saw, so she took off her heavy winter coat and put it over her arm. Still unhappy, she took off her shoes and held them in her hand before eventually marching out in indignation muttering that the scales were faulty!

Lilyjosh - that's how Mrs D and I do it - she has to get on her knees to read it though c'os I can't see the scale when I'm holding the suitcase as close to my chest as possible to keep the centre of gracity correct.

I think you have both lost the point here. As long as nothing else is taking any weight, it doesn't matter how much of something is touching the scale as the part that is will be bearing all of the weight.

If you don't beleive me, weigh yourself, then lift one leg up and check for yourself that you do not get any lighter.[8D]

Bathroom scales always works pretty well for me, but you can do the weigh yourself trick with and without the bags as people have suggested above.

70lbs is a lot, chances are if you can lift it without pulling something then you are OK

Yeah it's not just VS who are strict you'll find it's every airline in the BAA's airports. No one bag can weigh more than 32kg to the point where the baggage belts don't move if a bag is over 32kg.

Unless you're going to Nigeria i very much doubt your bags will be 32kg. Pax always think their bags are heavy because they're not used to carting round 32kg.

I've yet to find a set of scales bar those at the airport that are actually accurate a reading luggage. If i were you i'd turn up a little early and use the airport scales.

I did find this one online as well but the problem is that it weighs only upto 50lbs. I am looking for one that can do upto 70bs. thx
