Does anyone know if there is a set pattern as to which a/c takes which route from LGW i.e. does VS16 in become VS15 out, or is it a random choice depending on there arrival time at LGW?

As I understand it there is a standard pattern based (I assume) on expected arrival time + turnaround - The idea being to have the a/c on the ground for the minimum time.

This thread talks a little more about the concept.

Most airlines use a computerised scheduling system that sets the patterns of aircraft flying up. From that the Ops team then have to work with that plan and change it around where needed to sort out delays/tech etc.

With a scheduled like VS I think it would be fairly easy to keep aircraft on the same route although to balance utilisation they probably do switch around.
