virgin atlantic as far as i know only operate B747-400, A340/300/600 however i have looked at some pics and in the virgin atlantic livery is a 737-400 in the 90's. it was definietly in VS livery and not another such as virgin sun. was this aircraft used on the athens route? and why did this route stop? is it true VS are phasing out the A340/300
thanks

They did indeed use a 737 (or was it an A320) on routes to Athens back in the 90's and I believe it was stopped after passenger numbers declined post 9/11, along with a few other VS routes such as Chicago.
In answer to your second question; yes, and no.
The arcadia A340's are leaving the fleet and going to Virgin Nigeria, whilst the others are being refitted for the suite. I hope this helps.

I'm just saying these from memory, but Greece, Chicago, and Toronto I think are three. Also, VS have operated a 763, a 320, and a 321 for a couple months in the past.

VS operated an economy and a business class (not Upper Class) on their Greece route (there was no PE either). The A/C was in full VS livery though.
YYZ was operated using a 742 from LGW with the 3 usual VS cabins.

I haven't been able to find any interior pictures of the 763, but there are outside pics
here and
here. Apparently, according to some of the available pictures, they flew to Portugal as well.

the link from VS-EWR also shows that the B767 was leased from Martinair - IIRC it was used to for a short period of time only - so doubt it had VS product inside.
As far as the Athens route was concerned, we had the 737, then an A320 (G-OUZO), which was then replaced by the A321 (G-VATH) which operated a "W" routing of LHR-ATH-LGW-ATH-LHR (I think!) in the cuurent livery.

I flew to ATH on G-OUZO (aptly registered) in the nineties in business class. I have a feeling the seats were red but other than that I can't remember much![:I]

a search on a.net shows both an
Boeing 747-200 and an
Airbus A340-300 at Chicago.
You are both right!
Rich.
