Now I see Virgin has come up with its own scheme to counter BA's offer based on the cricket tomorrow.

Simple fact is that Virgin have been completely outplayed by BA on this one and are playing catch up, and BA have won all the publicity. Shame, this is the sort of thing Virgin should be in the lead on.

Any thoughts?

BTW any other v-flyers at the Oval on Saturday?

ooo!

I'm due (at last!) to book tickets to Oz in the next week - do we know if this doscount will apply to Upper Class fares?

I think the number of runs Flintoff scores will be the discount to the fare, not the revised fare - at last thats how I read it!

Yep I'm there:D[y]. My friend has just phoned me up with a spare ticket about 10 mins ago. I absolutely love cricket and am a big fanatic but I've never been to see it live before (they analyze it so well on tele!), is it arranged seating or is just first come first choice of seats?

I do find it strange that such a key promotion has been hidden within the Press Releases section of va.com.

Nothing on "Special Offers", or the front page. Shame...

If England don't win the Ashes, this gimmick will sink faster than a lead balloon.

It is slightly on the dull side for such a vibrant brand to use an idea from BA, and all based on cricket[:I]

Umm... I think they cover this:

"Not to be outdone by BA weÕve come up with an even better offer. BAÕs ticket promotion could be scuppered by a strong showing by the Aussies. By backing man of the series Andrew ÒFreddieÓ Flintoff we are guaranteeing that hundreds of people will celebrate his success with unbeatable deals to Sydney.

ie: REGARDLESS of the result, Virgin will cut the price of the SYD trip by Flintoff's number of runs in the series...?

It's all numbered seating so you'll be guided to exactly where you will be. Should be a fantastic atmosphere ... I was at Lords for the first (and worst) and now at the Oval for the last (and x-fingers best).

Really sad that VS is responding to BA's marketing tactics. Would have expected more originality from VS. Come on guys - lead, don't follow...

He's out for 72 so fare is down to £348 plus what he gets in the second innings (assuming England bat again ;))

OK there's now more info on this special offer on the VS web page here

Unsurprisingly no miles or TP's will be earnt on this fare, however the standard fare is now quoted as been £611 therfore so far the fare stands at an amazing £217 + £131 tax!!!!!

Travel between 16 April 06 - 30 June 06

Very tempted here!!!!!

Interesting - no child fare - children pay the full adult sale fare. Not a great hardship as it is sure to be less than the next best child fare.

Infants pay 10% - no seat required.

I'll be glad when this bloody cricket malarky is over. I've never seen so much bandwagon jumping in all my life, oh well, not since the rugby union win a few years back. Now, it's Jonny 'who?'

Flintoff went cheaply for 8 so £340 is the fare.

Yup he went cheap, unlike the flights :D

How do we get any work done on a day like today ... sorry none cricket fans. It's not quite finger-chewing yet but I'd be a lot happier if Freddie didn't fall for Warne's tricks and we had another couple of batsmen left. But all praise to Kev, fantastic century!
