Hilton gold VIP status - any good for FC miles?

PostPosted: 11 Oct 2005, 21:21

I've now reached Hilton gold VIP status - does anyone know how I can use them in conjunction with Virgin FC? Are the honours points transferable? If so is this 'points for points'? You get a 25% bonus so after 4 stays thats about 25,000 HHonors points but are these any good for FC?

:)

{Topic subject changed to "FC miles" from "Airmiles" as these two are completely different programs, Bazz.}

Full details are on the VS website

Or, you can use V-Flyer's points converter - courtesy of pixuk.

In a nutshell each 10K Hilton points converts to 1.5K FC points.

I didn't realise I had been downgraded to silver until a new card came last week, we had been using mrs jags Au card as it came with the extra 25k miles offer.Yesterday those nice people at hilton sent me a new gold card valid until May 2007 also with the 25k offer.

Yeah not sure whats going on there. The missus applied for one the other day and has never stayed there. Got a nice gold card back, she put in her FC number so not sure if that made anything different for the application. Even so we are both only FC siver

Looks like Hilton are flooding the market with Aus - seems if you have a VS or a BA card you now have an Au card. At the risk of being accused of sour grapes I'd say it really cheapens the benefit.

Yeah I agree Decker. I did have AU with Amex Plat but the last year I had to earn it. Having said that i've always got a room upgrade still and have wondered if the staff at the hotels can tell if they are complimentary cards or if they have been earnt.

All that being said and done im going Diamond with them next month. I'd much prefer to stay at starwoods more often than Hiltons, I prefer some of the brands and the hotels always seem to offer a more consitent product (which is what really annoyed me about Hilton), but you cant earn your status from the amount you spent only the number of stays whereas Hilton lets you do both.

Lol what's next, Virgin giving out Au to people who've never been on a VS flight? It certainly does take the point out of earning these things, especially if the points themselves are virtually worthless...

I totally agree, the funny thing is that the times we used mrs jags comped HH Au card recently we have always got upgrades access to exec lounge and big smiles. The years of using my earned one nothing.Just done a bit of juggling with xmas hotels to get the promo miles and saved about £1000 to boot.:D

Virgin giving out Au to people who've never been on a VS flight?

A bit like the United,Lufthansa,British Midland and Thai Au/senator cards *a give out like smarties.:D

Like our HH Diamond status did a lot at the weekend, nothing at all different to what a HH Gold got. But then UK Hiltons are known for being useless when it comes to recognising HH status.

I didn't even manage to eat the 'two' chocolates that were given as a welcome gift, HighFlyer took those. And as for that tiny bottle of wine, no wonder they only left one glass!

Thanks,
Richard

I've been HH Gold since November last year and I hadn't stayed at a Hilton until this weekend (where the room upgrades worked a treat!) :D

Cheers

Sorry to be slow, but what is this VS Hilton gold offer - have I been asleep? I did a search but nothing likely came up.

I don't think there's an "offer", per se, it seems the cards just turn up :D

Cheers

This was the thread about it. Michael is right, it wasn't an offer per se. it was targetted, (somehow [:I] )

Got 4 days holiday left at work that I have to take by next month preferably. Thinking of popping over to europ for 2-3 days of that.
Had a quick look at the Hilton website's sign-up form for the HHonours things and noticed that you have to put some credit card details in.
Is this fine to do so? I assume that you can change your credit card details as I'm waiting for my Virgin card to arrive and would rather accrue miles on that than some other card that I have at present.
(Did read somewhere that it's for qiuick checking in etc?)

I got the golden card through the post today, so I am loved after all:D.

But the thing is that the letter starts off by saying

"Dear Mr Kigh,

Congratulations! You have been specially selected....."

And it says Jeremy Kigh on the card too. Who the hell is Mr Kigh?! I thought about it, then thought stuff it - I'll use it anyway. (Stop reading now NotinghamNick) Shame it's not a charge card, or I could stuff up this Mr Kigh's credit rating right well.

WOW, I recieved a Gold VIP card in the post today despite never spending a night in a Hilton under my account ( much to the annoyance of my wife who has 10 stays this year buy is still a lowly silver[:0])

The letter also offers a bonus of 25,000 miles for 4 stays before January!

So can I please ask two questions to any experts out there :

As my wife has over 40,000 points and I have 0, if I start collecting miles under my account can we combine miles towards reward stays (IE a GLON reward ); and

The biggest advantage of Gold status seems to be upgrades on rooms. As many of my stays will be with the family, is there a good chance of getting upgrades on family rooms ?

Thanks in Advance

DD

Impeccable timing as usual.

Still, can't complain, its not as if I really deserve gold status anyway[8D]
