Hey everyone,

For anyone out there in the UK who loves American sweets, but has trouble finding them over here, take a look at this site:

I was once delayed out of ewr and tried most stuff in the candy store, all the ones you saw in movies as a kid, and what can I say, all utter crap !

Sorry mcuth, I was generally refering to chocolate based products.
Although I tried some butterscotch sweets that tasted nice.....
for about 2 seconds, then tasted like poison.

Mcuth respect to the JELLYBELLY agreed ! (Although I think they are German !) Ohh grandad I like your werthers sweet butter candies!

I agree, Jelly Belly jelly beans are soooo nice. I bought a load today.

I also like peanut butter M&M's and Reeses pieces etc.

Someone at work at LHR brought in some mini Hersheys
yuk, yuk yuk oily sweet wax !!!

I think there is not enough cocoa and too much oil for shine !!

But I spoze if you are used to nothing better then you are used to it
and its nice ! (P.S. don't mean you guys, Mean Americans in general)

Hershey's isn't as nice as one of our chocolate makers (such as Cadbury), it's true. However, the Reeses peanut-butter-and-chocolate brand (made by Hershey) is sooo nice.

I think in general American chocolate is made very differently to ours.

Also, many of there sweets are made using chemicals that are illegal for use in food here in the European Union, so a lot of their versions of certain flavors are very different to here.

I do agree with the chocolate comments - ISTR that American chocolate (yes, even the "Cadbury" chocolate made under license by Hershey) is made with a lesser cocoa content than the chocolate in Europe. That would explain the difference in taste.

I always take my friends in the US some Cadbury Dairy Milk, and some Thorntons Continental (usually the Assorted Special Toffee too) - they love it!

Last time I was at the Jelly Belly Outlet in Sacramento we stocked up on Jelly Belly Chocolate beans too - actually surprisingly tasty. Not seen them in the UK yet. And there IS good chocolate to be found - Ghiardelli's in SFO is hardly trash

One of the cheapest places to buy Jelly Belly's is at Fuzzywiggs at the Premium Outlets near Downtown Disney in Orlando.

They have a great selection and you can gets pounds and pounds for a few dollars.... usually manage to get a few weeks stock when I am across.

It is as always down to individual tastes. I like English chocolate and I also like American chocolate (100 grands, 3 Musketeers etc..) but they are different, I thinbk they use different sugars also.
The Chocolate I cannot stand is European stuff like belgium chocs, far too sweet and yucky

Just got back from a week in Belgium and everyone insists I bring back Galler... very high cacao content and bittersweet for the most part. Must say it is some of the best CHOCOLATE I know of.

As I was saaying, different tastes for different people.
Personally I cannot stand the taste of Guilian Belgium Chocs, too sweet and too smooth.

I've gotta confess, I've never tried the Chocolate JBBs. When I was up at the factory they were making a batch of pear, and the smell was mouthwatering - stocked up then too (oh yeah, and whoever's reading this - IIRC, the price of the JBBs in Retail Therapy is extortionate).

I'd agree that Ghiradelli isn't too bad, but IMNSHO it still isn't a patch on Thorntons

I tried to send some sweets across the pond the other day and I was refused as they are Manufactured goods and should first be registered with the FDA!

How many other people have found this? It's another measure the US are imposing to counter bio-terrorism. Strangly tho, all "home made" goods are excempt and can be sent without notifying the FDA.

Anyone else come across this?
