Gold Luggage Allowance

I had it in the back of my mind that gold card holders got the UC luggage allowance regardless of class of ticket. But I cannot find sight nor sound of this on the VS site. Is my mind failing me again or is my recollection correct?

Try here. Although it doesn't explicitly say a limit, it does state:

Priority boarding, priority baggage handling and excess baggage allowance, when a member flies with Virgin Atlantic in any class of travel.

Sorry if that's completely useless. It's 7:24am, and I'm just going to bed, hugging my free breakfast comp. slip and casino chips I won. [}:)][:0]

They don't - but Dave's on vacation right now. What goes in the Strat stays in the Strat....

Thanks for the link and for the advice Paul. I sent it through to VS CS and got a good response([:0]) for once. AU's get the normal Y allowance doubled to 40kg. I then realise that my flight is to DUR so will only be on VS metal to JNB, and then transfers to National. So I have now had to go back with a suplementry question asking if I get my 40kg on the national flight too.

Interestingly, although OT, the VS CS who answered was a person I had dealt with before. The previous time she was really good too. I think I will just have to ask for her by name.

What would be really useful for me as Au would be to get increased carry-on allowance. I never travel with checked baggage (except when going on holiday and then only because She Who Must Be Obeyed makes me!) Having the UC carry-on allowance as Au regardless of class (I usually travel in PE) would be much better.

I can't really imagine ever wanting to check in 40Kg of baggage when travelling on my own. What earthly use is that to anyone!?

I know what you mean about carry on. I did not ask VS that question, but should imagine that AU card holders get the UC allowance - maybe you should ask them and get back to us - I think they maybe getting fed up with my little queries at the moment.

As to the hold luggage, 40kg is damn useful to me. Take my next trip. My packing list is:
1 x jack pump - apx 8kg
2 x 25 tonne mast jacks - 10kg each = 20kg
Odds and sods of rigging - prob 5kg

So that only leaves me 7 kg for my shirts, socks and y-fronts!

Worth remembering that although your hold luggage is 40kg, the maximum weight of an individual piece is 32kg. This is to prevent injury to baggage handlers I believe.

Nope,

I have been made to check carry-on (suitbag) when in Y,if the miles upgrade to UC had been successful I could have taken it on.

You should travel with my no.1 after a trip to a discount mall in the US. We come back with baking equipment to shoes to christmas decorations to whatever. That UC and Au allowance does come in useful!!
