Best UC seats on A340-300 (Suite)

Just booked next autumn's trip - have placed a posting on the Travel Forum for anyone who is interested in details, and can help me with a few queries relating to domestic flights [?]

We're flying out (VS007) on an A340-600 & back (VS012) on an A340-300. Just wondered if anyone has any views on best suites on the 300, I've checked the seat ratings but no rating as yet. For the time being I've selected 2A & 3A, I based this on (a) Nobody opposite so nice & private, (b) Didn't go for 1A as this suite is right next to the IBT area hence may be subject to disturbance.

Suggestions appreciated, thanks

It depends what you want out of your journey.
2A and 3A are still very close to the massage station, you may find you get disturbed by the traffic.
4K and 5K seem to be the most private and these face the back side of the middle set of seats.

You mention 2A and 3A have no one opposite. I believe they do and you need K seats to get no one opposite. (on the 343 anyway)

Hope this helps

Paul

Thanks Paul. Interesting, unless the seat ratings page is wrong it shows rows 1-9 K seats as sitting facing the person in the middle suite, i.e. the ottoman of the middle suite is close to K suite?

I think VegasCrazy is right. The 343 UCS layout is different from the 346: 1A-9A have no one opposite and 14K-16K have no one opposite I think!

I think I am correct. 343 UCS has D's all the way through (no G's as shown on the seat ratings page). I did inform Pete, but he is a busy guy. As a reference the 346 has a mix of D and G.

Can anyone who has flown on a 343 UCS recently confirm this?

Paul

I'd go for the B section, much more private!:D

I agree with you Paul. There are no G seats on the UCS fitted A343s, the middle seats are all D seats and face toward the left.

Thanks everyone for your replies, really helpful. I've gone on to the seat map on my booking and switched our seats to 2K & 3K meaning that we don't have anyone opposite us and aren't right next to the front WC. In the absence of any 340-300 seat ratings as yet I hope this is sound choice!

One thing, VS045 mentioned he's go for the B zone, I assume this means the separate bit of UC, rows 14-16. These seats are indeed available for selection on our flight, but was just interested as to what makes the B zone special, is it purely because it's smaller and more intimate? Must admit I think I prefer the feel of a larger cabin :)

Vegascrazy, I am completely the opposite to you - I much prefer a smaller cabin, that's why I like the upper deck on the 747s and the B section on the -300s. Unfortunately, no such luck on the -600s so I have to settle for 17K (i think), although if possible, I switch to 16K for take-off and landing as the windows aren't that great in 17.[:I]

Hi Airbus340, no you need to book K's if you don't want anyone opposite, p17blo was correct in what he said above. Hope this helps.

Just reading this thread and am now confused again! Which way do the middle suites face on the UCS A340 300, to the left or the right? Currently booked into K on return from BOS next Oct, but unlike info provided in this thread the older thread above definitely states that the middle suites face to the right, ie. towards K, meaning that A suites are the more private!

Check out these Cabin Pictures -

Looks like the 343 UCS is laid out the same as the 346 UCS.

At least I hope it is - I've just reserved seat a K seat on VS24 for January[?]

Hi Vegascrazy,

Believe me, I understand your confusion. First off, I will say that I have not flown either aircraft but will be on the 600 shortly. So I stand to be corrected on this advice.

Here's what I can see, however, after looking at both Virgin's maps and ours: There are no "G" seats on the suite-equipped "300", but (and here's the little confusing part) the seat orientation changes when you move into the second zone (rows 14-16). UC seat orientations on the "600" also change when you move to the rear UC zone.

A little trick here is to just look at the position of the ottoman; if it faces (is roughly parallel) to the one across the aisle from its position, then the seats also face one another.

There are some "G" seats on the "600"; those are in the rear UC zone; on the "600" I believe the "D" seats forward (in front of the curtain)are those assigned to snoozers on overnight flights.

The Forum seat ratings illustrate these differences; Virgin's official seats maps show the seat designations, but not which way they face.

I am keeping fingers crossed that I've given you accurate information, and await the arrival of the cavalry (more wizened Moderators) to edit my post if I've erred.

Regards,
Chuck-

I am sorry but you are wrong again. I flew on a 343 UCS last week. Facing the front of the aircraft all middle seats face left (or towards A). This does not change in section B they still face left (towards A).

For clarity and the sake of repeating myself. All middle UCS seats on a 343 face towards A. If you want extra privacy choose the K seats.

The pictures below demonstrate this as long as you remember that the middle seats look like they face right, but you are looking towards to rear of the aircraft.
