VirginFlyer Group Social: Possibly 12th June 04

There appears to be some interest in a bit of a get-together for VirginFlyers at some point. This being a democracy, of course, I'm throwing it open to the floor to steer the direction of an appropriate venue. Here are some suggestions for you to put a tick by.
Not planning anything fancy, mind you. Bit of a piss up, maybe raffle off some VS memorabilia and, most important, put some faces to names.

Ok, I voted, but I wanted to add a little bit

I think, for 2004, we should start off with some gatherings in pubs, etc.. I dunno about everyone else, but I've already made most of my holiday/trip plans for this year (thanks to budget planning & booking time off), although I will be in Vegas for 4 days in July anyway.
Wonder if we could get someone from VS to attend any socials too? [?]
Cheers

Whilst Vegas does appeal we do have quite a cross section of people on the board and a pub/hotel somewhere seems more likely to get more people. Having said that I'm up for any of the choices...

OK Mrs Decker says "Vegas!" or Tobago...

Vegas would be cool - but to be realistic somewhere near LHR would be good - can fly down then.

Vegas would be my choice - but probably not for the first meet+:D
Heathrow is certainly easier to get to than the others

Having voted, I can now say that I'd be happy for any get together in a suitable watering hole near to a UK airport.
Happy to assist[8D]

I've voted for heathrow too. Would be nice with some planning next year to have enough to take over an U/c cabin for a little jolly. What about a long weekend to New York. Could probably do a deal with VS / publicity for them

See how demand goes, maybe a pub at the end of a runway at Heathrow (Green Man or Jolly Waggoner for example) and then every 2 or 3 years hit Vegas

Yeah, this might be a good financial recovery cycle

Heathrow is best for me to get to and Ive just about used up the good will of my mate who runs my trade counter when I am away . I do not think the wife would be very pleased at me heading off to Vegas for a couple of nights on my own either[:(]

Heathrow would be good for an initial Do and then lets plan the 2005 Vegas one! [8D]

Though I voted for Crawley (purely selfish reasons, it's close to me etc

) Heathrow would also be good

Yeah, I'm thinking on those lines too - especially as the RailAir bus might come in handy

As it looks like Heathrow is the most sensible option for the first meet (let's put Vegas in the diary for next year...), how about bowling? There's a tin-pin bowling alley next to the airport
Airport Bowl
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 03&A=Y&Z=1As for pubs (for a pre-bowl drinky), there are a number of options. If anyone is familiar with any of these watering holes and can make a recommendation, please post here

The Three Magpies
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 28&A=Y&Z=1The Pheasant
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 03&A=Y&Z=1The Wheatsheaf
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 39&A=Y&Z=1For grub - there's a few options (apart from the Heathrow hotels, of course);
Simpson Tandoori
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 21&A=Y&Z=1The Chilli Zone & Sharma Tandoori, next door to each other at;
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 26&A=Y&Z=1Simply Nico @ The Crowne Plaza
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dl ... 73&A=Y&Z=1As for the date, I'm assuming a Saturday would be best for most calendars, and a date in either June or July. If you're definitely up for coming along, but there are any specific Saturdays you can't make in June or July, post them here and we'll try to find a date that fits the majority.

Sounds good to me - back from MIA on 3rd June, so I am sure I will be able to work something out for any of the dates.

Can't do 19,26 June (New Orleans) or July 10th (friend's wedding). But hey if I can't do it I can't do it

. May have a July 4th party on 3rd but unsure yet...

I am certainly up for this get together and doing my "Barney Rubble" with the tins.
I would have to avoid 5 June and 3 July for definate at this stage.

Drink + Bowl (drink) + Curry (drink) - sounds like an excellent recipe for a Satdi night

Have to write off every Satdi in July for me - planning to fly out to SFO at the beginning of the month for a fortnight (including 5 days in Vegas) and bringing a friend back for the rest of the month.
Cheers

Well, that narrows it down a bit. The only Saturday not covered by those 'no can do's' would be 12th June.
How's that look for everyone else?
mcuth - that agenda sounds good. One question, will there be any time for a drink after the curry? Hic. I might have to book an airport hotel!

12th June sounds fairly good for me

Oh, you meant a drink after the curry? Since I've been living down South, I've got used to drinking with the curry

Now the airport hotel thing could be an idea, especially if there's a few of us (group rate?) - I'd initially thought about catching RailAir there & back though

Cheers

No, I meant a drink after the curry as well as with the curry. Just thought you missed that one off the agenda

RailAir link could be an idea, although a hotel bar might be more appealing...

Holiday Extras (link at bottom of page) are quoting under £45 for the Ibis on the 12th June. Not a bad deal, and the Ibis is in staggering distance of most of the locations on the Bath Road north of the Airport (unlike the bus ride to Langley for the Marriott).
Now all we need to establish is who can make it on the 12th?

12th June is clear in my diary at the moment.
As for airport hotels, Sheraton at LHR is £54.
Thanks,
Richard
