V-Flyer

Would it make any sense at all to fly VS (I love them so much and that is why I would endure the extra 5 hours in the air) from Boston via London via Hong Kong to Sydney? Anyone have any experience with this: either in personal ideas or where to go to book such a trip. This is not possible from Virgin's website.

Any ideas would be helpful.

I did see HoneyLambs post already...except coming from Ireland versus the US is a bit of a different story.

Well Svenska you could book that via AmEx Online for NYC-LHR-(HKG)-SYD for about a USD400 premium on some random dates in Dec.

I would suggest CO BOS-EWR then SQ EWR-SIN-SYD as the service on SQ is the same if not better that VS and this routing would take less time and enable you to visit KUL. Also you would have better legroom and seat width as SQ Exec. Econ. is pretty much VS PE plus they have AVOD.

Also if you wanted to visit HKG, then you could make a stopover in SIN and fly JetStar Asia to HKG return for around SGD313 (USD183).

Something to ponder.

But, I am not sure if I could do the 17 hour flight? What do you think? I guess it is only 4 more than the LAX to SYD so...interesting to ponder I guess.

Any other suggestions on my Virgin Sydney flight experience?

Well I currently do not know but I will be able to tell you on Dec 7 after I do it. Hey, you would get braging rights as it is the world longest.

Good question. EWR-SIN was 60,000 UA miles for a *A award in Exec. Econ. It was upgraded but then I got a call saying between the time they upgraded me and when they were confirming the change with SQ there were no longer seats in J.

Then I bought a ticket SIN-KUL for about USD300 in F.

Then I bought a ticker KUL-SIN-SYD for USD750 in Y.

It is 90,000 VS miles in econ. but you could use 60,000 VS miles from SFO-HKG on SQ then JetStar HKG-SIN then SQ to SYD but you live on the east coast.

The VS option may be good if you take the EWR-SIN flight outbound, do your things in Oz and Asia, then do the SIN-FRA-JFK as the award allows a stopover in FRA. That way it would be (argualy) be a RTW and you would see Asia, Oz, Europe, and (best for last) the great bay/San Francisco.

Wow...that is a great idea...except, I am doing a summer study program, so I don't have a lot of time.

I like the idea of taking Singapore Air from Newark to Singapore...but I can't believe it is only 60,000 united miles...that is true?

The other option would be something with Air New Zealand. That way I could stop off at NZ, which is easy and something I have always wanted to do.

Now I am sure this will be out of the picture because I have limited, limited funds, but any special deals in business class (EVER???)...

You mentioned not having a lot of time, and that you'll not be in UC or PE. Even though I love VS too, I'd say the direct route (which, to me, means flying West, West and more West!) is the way to go.

Jetwet1's suggestion--Air New Zealand--will get you VS mileage and get you to your destination in likely better shape than going round the opposite direction.

Although...I might have to go with United. I was just looking at prices and Air New Zealand and they are quite intense...I think I might just have to go with my Star Alliance back up
