Hi

I have some AA advantage club miles, and was wondering if these could be converted to Virgin Flying Club miles ?

If so how do you do this and how much are AA miles worth in relation to thw Virgin miles?

TIA

Hi idv,

The basic answer is, unfortunately, not very efficiently. Here is a link to the mileage calculator on the site.

It allows you to type the start/end product in terms of miles. Here's the result for AAdvantage to VS FC:

Starting with 10000
American Airlines AAdvantage converts to Hilton HHonors at a ratio of 5000:10000 20000

Minimum Transfer: 5000 In Increments Of: 5000

Hilton HHonors converts to Virgin Atlantic flying club at a ratio of 10000:1500 3000

Minimum Transfer: 10000 In Increments Of: 10000

So - 10,000 AA miles = 3,000 VS miles... [n]

It's not a direct conversion, but have a look here for your options :)

You also have to pay[V][n] to trtansfer the AA miles to Hilton Honours! Or at least I had to earlier this year.

$25 transaction fee. Thanks for pointers on AA though - forgot I had some miles floating around there - tempted to convert to Hilton now :)

It's a bit of a chore only being able to transfer in lumps of 5000, but one consolation is that it resets the expiry date:D

More efficient transfer can be made via Diners Club, but I do not know if non-USA Diners accounts accept transfers from AA. 50,000 is the maximum transfer.

AA 50,000 = DC 25,000 = VS 25,000

Is that the max per transfer or for life?

50,000 mile maximum per transfer, and 150,000 mile maximum per calendar year per AAdvantage account. You could make three 50,000 mile transfers to Diners Club, each subject to the $25 fee. However, if you transferred some miles to Hilton, Priority Club, etc those would also count against the 150,000 mile annual cap.

The Diners Club (US) website indicates "there is a limit of 50,000 miles that can be converted in one calendar year".
