I saw this in the new issue (issue 3) of Poker Player - here in the UK

Poker player mag has teamed up with Virgin Poker to offer a freeroll poker tournament with the chance to pocket enough miles for a return flight to LAS or NYC. Qualify for the final and you are guaranteed a prize and you could scoop enough miles to fly anywhere in the world (their words - not mine) and you dont have to spend a penny.

The Freeroll - to get your exclusive freeroll token, for entry into all 3 feeder freeroll tourneys, just send an email to [email protected]

Dates: Dec 15th, 20th and 21st at 8pm uk time.

Points awarded to the top 30 finsishers (1st: 30, 2nd: 29 etc) the top 30 after the 1st three feeders qualify for the final. As I read it the top qualifer gets 40000 miles. 2nd - 30000 miles and 3rd - 20000 miles.

Grand final - on the 22nd. Prizes as follows:
1st place - 100000 miles

You know what will happen.

I'll register for an account and 5 days later they will announce a promotion offering 10,000 miles to NEW members only[B)] ( again )

Mind you, with luck like that I really shouldn't be gambling at all[:p]

Well, here's a longish story......
I've had quite a longstanding membership of Virgin Poker, although not frequently used. So, I tried to update my membership via the registration link for "existing members" - nope, it wouldn't recognise my old username/password. Following instructions on the website, I contacted customer "services" to find out what was going wrong, only to be met with "We have no details of existing members, we can only deal with the new system".....oh, ok, right - I create a new username - no problem. Downloaded the software and tested it by viewing a few tables already in progress.... all ok [y]

Friday night rolls around, and I register for the $1k freeroll - all good....until the tourney starts and the table window opens....then closes. Try as I might, I couldn't get back into the table at all. Ah well, I went off and got drunk instead :D

Satdi, registered for that night's $1k freeroll - all good....the tourney starts, the table window opens....and stays open - yay! [y] I play relatively well for the first hour, winning some nice hands, losing some numpty ones (Straight to the Jack, beaten by one to the Queen - grrrrr), but manage to make it to the 1st break without being knocked out - ~3600 chips, in 66th place out of 235 (IMHO not too shabby for a relatively novice Hold 'em player, and a position that could easily be bettered with a few double ups). The 1st break ends, the cards are dealt....and the table window closes again! Couldn't get back in at all, again [n]

Oooh, there's "live support" available, so I join in a chat session with "a rep" (name withheld to protect the ridiculous) - smell the sarcasm:
"{rep}: Hello mcuth, my name is {rep}, How may i help you?
mcuth: Hi {rep} - I've just been booted out of the $1000 freeroll tourney after the 1st break
mcuth: Everything was fine up until the break, then it said I was sitting out, and the table window closed. I haven't been able to get back in...
{rep}: To enable us to investigate this matter we will require an email from you, this will allow us to track your query to completion.
mcuth: And in the meantime, the tourney goes on while I'm not playing?
{rep}: yes
mcuth: Not good enough
{rep}: there is not much else we can do ,it being a freeroll
mcuth: tremendous, thanks for the outstanding help
{rep}: Thank you for your query; if we can be of further assistance please donÕt hesitate in contacting us.
--------- {rep} has left this chat session. ---------
mcuth: email is on its way"

Sent the email, no reply for almost 3.5hrs, and even that was "we've entered you into tomorrow night's tourney" - nothing about any resolution....

Ok, ok, it's a free tourney, but come on - this is pathetic, there's money to be played for! Mind, despite not playing on, I still ended up in 49th place - LOL.

Combine this debacle with Virgin Casino's new method of crediting bonuses (which, BTW, they said they were updating their website with, and they still haven't) and they've just lost a customer - miles or no miles [V][V]

So here ends my precautionary tale ;)

BTW, my favourite online casino offers comp points (coverted to cash when you hit £25) and a cash match bonus every month - ok, no miles & no poker tables, but brilliant customer service [y][y]

Cheers

Michael
