V-Flyer

My first UCS experience.

Having not been on here for a while (working away grrrrrr), and things seemed a bit quiet I thought I'd jump in with something.

I have taken advantage of the UC special offer and booked myself a return flight to Shanghai. Always want to go there, and the offer seemed too good to miss, so I did it.
I am so looking forward to it as I have been told subject to schedule that the aircraft will be an A340-600 both ways which has the UCS. I read the V-Flyer reviews and chose seat 2K. Is this too close to the WC or should I move on row back?

Secondly, my friend wanted to join me and has booked himself an economy ticket. I know I can have him as a guest in the lounge, but can I have a drink with him at the bar onboard? Or even ask him up for a meal/drink at my suite?

I think probably not, but you guys know all so I thought I would ask!

Im sure he will be allowed at the bar - cc are very easy going!

I wouldn't be so quick to reassure, personally. Although I know of cases where it's been allowed, I know of quite a few where it wasn't. (Especially if J is full).

Case in point - the V-Flyer trip to Vegas. (But I've also seen it refused on previous occasions)

You could always take your drink 9 in a real glass ) through to your mate in Ec and then your notice how worthwhile the suite is;)

So you didn't use your miles to book? Are you saving them up?

I am saving them. I figured that I could use them when the fare wasn't in my spend range, and then I would hopefully feel I am getting better value for money, if you see what I mean.

This time I could afford it. In fact I spent nearly the same amount on a PE ticket once upon a time!!

Yep I think that's a good idea, I would have done the same (actually I probably wouldn't have been able to stop myself spending them [:p])

I have the same dilema for my A340-600 flights to SYD.

As I understand it, the latest (last two?) A346's delivered have the front loo on the starboard side, which removes the problem of seats 1D and 2D looking into the loo (so to speak!). All other A346's have the front Loo's on the Port side.

If this is correct, then the v-flyer maps for the A346 are slightly wrong - Can another v-flyer confirm if this is correct?

As it is not known which specific A346 I will fly on, I have opted for seats 3K outbound and back.

Welcome aboard VFlyer.

Like you I am taking advantage of the UC sale fares. Have booked seat 3K on an upcoming 346 flight (VS7, a daytime flight); BTW our VFlyer seatmap feature was a big help.

As for finding your friend a seat at the onboard bar I agree with Preiffer; you can certainly "ask", but you shouldn't "expect."

Yes - The seatmap feature was a great help, and when I booked it over the phone and said to the reservation agent "Hold on while I check out V-Flyer" - she was so praising of the site, in fact all of Virgin are she tells me.
Anyway, I am thinking about just moving one row back to 3K because of the toilets, but not sure it will make a big difference because my pure excitement of being in the UCS will carry me through!

I am a little bit worried if I will actually get too addicted to UCS ... I am now waiting for my first UCS flight and everyone keeps telling that there is no way going back. Am I able to fly other airlines any longer? Is anything going to feel the same any longer after UCS?

Oh ... what I have done to myself? Oh well, then I just have to live with that fact and fly with UCS as much as possible.

Sounds like I am going to be in the same boat. I once got upgraded to UC with the J2000 seat, but that was at the gate, so didn't get to absorb the whole pre-flight stuff at the lounge. That was fantastic, and I always vowed to do a long haul (11+) in the UCS. I can't wait, I am excited, I feel like a little child waiting for Christmas day!
