Here was my dilema!!

NY Transit strike so arrange car service to JFK seriously early (4pm from midtown for the VS10! - extreme but who knows) Ended up arriving JFK at 5pm (duh). Offered ealrier flight VS4 but in PE was given 77A (right in front of Y and the bassinet! Asked about miles and was sent to ticket desk. Had disc K ticket so no miles upgrade avail. J offered at UKP599. What would you have done?

Writen in the JFK CH, but as an Au I would be here anyway. What do you think I did!!!!!

Guess a TR is to follow.

I think you kept your original flight, stayed in the club house for too long, drank too much and missed the flight !![:o)]

What would you have done?

Slapped the credit card in the ticket desk and paid for my UCS ... thank-you! Hell, if you are inquiring about an u/g its damned hard to say no to it when offered!

What do you think I did!!!!!

Erm ... exchanged £599 for a seat in J :D

What you did probably depends on how "v-flyer-ified" you've become. Now a sane person probably would have saved himself the extra cash and stuck with PE. A v-flyer member would probably, as demonstrated by the responses, have got out the plastic straight away and paid for the UC![:p][}:)]

Cheers,

£100 an hour for a fold flat seat always seems a little OTT to me, so I would have saved the money and spent it on extra crimbo pressies when I got home :D

If you've been out very late in New York the night before and are doing the earlier VS4 as I did in June, then very much agree as I barely slept. For later flights though you would hope to be able to sleep.

And when you're tired and need to sleep well it's amazing what you'll pay for it...

David.

[:?]I think it is possible to sleep in a PE seat.

I would have kept the money, and bought several large bottles of Mount Gay in the duty free.

Must have been fortunate on VS010 back at the end of Nov.... Slept for just over 4 hours of the flight and even found the economy seats relatively comfortable on the A343 :)

Not knocking those who choose to travel UC or PE in the slightest, just always prefer to spend my money at the destination point rather than on the flight.

I will go with those who say that it is a lot of money, for the increase in comfort. [:#]

In my case, not being gold and gaining CH / Revivals would have made it more worthwhile, and also if it was a west coast trip and more chance of a proper sleep, I would have been more tempted.

It is all down to personal choice.. at the end of the day, whichever way you went, I hope you had a good flight.

My problem is, I can think of a lot of other things I could do with six hundred quid!![:I]:D

I certainly would not have paid £599 for a flight that is that long, now if it was 10hr+ flight then thats a different matter.

Like Nick says, I can tyhink of many other things I can spend £600 on - sure Sarah could too [:p]

Thanks,
Richard

Well that was fun reading!!!

I am afraid now to admit I hit the credit card and went J!!! I therefore see this as making me a committed (or one who should be!) V-Flyer!! Actually I did have a challenging day following and the choice of 77K or the money, well in the end I opted for some comfotable sleep. Even managed to a catch a shoulder and scalp massage between snoozes so it wasn't all bad!! As a result I made it through a Christmas celebration lunch and a evenings dinner entertainment too.

Thanks for the votes of confidence from many of you.

Good on you. £599 top up I would take anytime, particularly on any overnight flight, irrespective of how long the flight was (on any VS route anyways).
There have been occasions where I would have paid more than that for a chance to sit in UC.
You didn't mention if it was UCS? I assume it was.

Well, you clearly are a classier person than me! Glad you enjoyed it, and anything that makes the xmas celebrations more bearable has to be worth it.

No prizes - I thought it was a bit too obvious!

Sarah, I am way down that road already. I generally am in PE as a friend of mine is a VS employee and has me on their Mates list. I can see myself paying for UCS directly in the future esp when I loose Au which inevitably I will.
