V-Flyer

Morning all

I'm heading back to SF in July to run the marathon (as you do). I'm wanting to fly out on the 27th, then fly back from SF 31/07/06.

Current price in Y is £737.50.

Whilst I know this is a busy time of year to travel, and therefore not the cheapest, this is still a lot of money to me. Having said that I don't want to use miles to pay for the trip.

Therefore, do you think I should hold out and see/hope it becomes cheaper? Or just book it now?

Book now. It's the single busiest period for airlines, and prices are at their highest.

I've not known VS (or any others) in recent history to offer a July fare sale, either. Much though it pains me to say this, have you compared BA's non published prices for the same period on ba.com - after registering for their birthday promo?

They're currently offering £100 off all published longhaul flights in July/August once registered - making it a bit cheaper

Preiffer- thanks for the headsup. BA comes in at £650. Tempting but then no TP and VS miles and I think I'd lose my Silver status if I don't do this flight with VS.

So I will book ASAP.

I took advantage of BA's Thursday specials back in July 2003 and flew to Tokyo for only GBP299 all in. Great deal for peak season, can't remember if Virgin matched the fare. That was the only time I flew BA long-haul.

AndyK: Consider this. If you fly VS, maybe you could meet a fellow VF. As consider if YOU are happy with the fare.

Also may want to post details in this thread. Maybe the SF Marathon could be a VF event. ~~Everybody, make it a goal

As with everything in life, there's always the possibility that a better deal will inevitably come along. If you've booked it, then at least you don't have to worry about things later.
Can't see the price changing overly much though - perhaps a miles promotion and that's about it......

The other thing to consider is that - in the very unlikely event of a July sale promotion, Y class transatlantic sale fares are invariably in N, so no FC or tier points.
