V-Flyer

I came across 2 photos on a.net, this one and this one. Both these pictures show G-VTOP (Virginia Plain) taking off from Manchester. The date of these photos are 28 December 2005, whilst the aircraft database on v-flyer shows that on the 28th December, Virginia Plain did the MCO-LGW route with no mention of MAN anywhere.

Has this just been omitted from the aircraft database and Virginia Plain WAS at MAN or is the date on the photo wrong? Unfortunately, I wasn't there to confirm or deny this!

Interesting - the V-F d/b shows G-VTOP running the VS028 MCO-LGW, but the LGW movements site shows that was run by G-VROY.... here's something technical for ya, I reckon there's something screwy in our d/b Pete?

I think the MAN aircraft "swaps" in MCO. i.e. VS15 or VS27 aircraft from LGW will then fly back from MCO to MAN, and the inbound from MAN will revert to the LGW service.

IIRC this swaps on a weekly basis, so that no one plane is away from it's engineering base at LGW for more than a week. This also saves having to do a positioning flight of 2 x 747's every week between LGW/MAN.

I wouldn't give a monkeys usually, but I'm doing some research into which aircraft fly which callsign to MCO and back from LGW/MAN (for my own use) and this conflict had confused me somewhat! [?]

It also confirms that G-VTOP left Manchester on the 28th December, and G-VGAL came back to MAN on the 29th December. So there was a switch in MCO.
