We are visiting Vegas for the 3rd time in May, on the previous two occasions (mainly due to the poor state of my friends finances) we ate at various cafés and fast food outlets.
On my third visit I would like to find out what a “real” steak tastes like, money is no longer an object.
Before giving your recommendations there is something you should bare in mind. My friend/travelling companion is blessed with the eating habits of a Pre-schooler[B)] and in many peoples eyes shouldn’t be let out in public at all[:#]
So can any one recommend a Steakhouse that does great stakes (Kobe?) but has a casual atmosphere where people won’t get annoyed when your friend acts like a jackass throughout the meal?

PS please feel free to move this subject to the restaurant guide section of the forum if you feel it is the more appropriate place for it.

Funny, I was just doing a quick search for a good steak house for tonight, I know what I think is the best, but I just wanted to make sure.

My own personal fav is the Steak House at Circus Circus

However here are some others

http://www.goldensteerlv.com/
http://www.n9ne.com/
http://www.bellagio.com/pages/din_prime.asp
http://www.binions.com/main.htm?steakhouse

As a lover of a good steak I have eaten at most of the places in town, now that Binion's has switched back to prime from choice it is again one of the best in town.

There are plenty of others, but if you stick with one of those you wont go far wrong.

We are eating at the Steakhouse tonight, I will post a quick review in here tomorrow.

We have always enjoyed Prime at Bellagio. Operated by Jean George Vongerichten. If you visit his website here there are some interior shots.

Be very careful when ordering Kobe Beef in the US! They don't appear to have such a stringent trading standards policy on such things when compared to the UK. Most US Kobe beef is Wagyu crossed with a domiciled breed such as Aberdeen Angus. I think the two largest producing states are Oregon and Texas but a significant number of other states raise Wagyu beef including California.

The price is usually Kobe even if the beef technically is not! [V]

Sorry having been in the restaurant business this is a pet gripe of mine. ;)

Just to agree with Bazz, the "kobe" served in the US is not kobe, it is Wagyu, whilst still good it is nowhere near the standard of true kobe.

Thanks for the replies, after seeing my mate at the Bellagio blackjack tables in Bermuda shorts and south park teeshirt[:$], I vowed never to go back there with him. I think the Circus Circus would be the best option.[y]

Flemings!!!! Bit of the strip but SO SO worth it. We went to the one in Palm Springs and went back the next night for the same meal.

Oh, I'm salivating just thinking about it...

We enjoyed Delmonico's at the Venetian.

Since getting back to the UK, I've refused to touch a steak as they just can't cook it like they do in the US.

My knife didn't really have to cut through the meat at all, it just sort of melted through. Will definitely go back there.

Nope, that will be the corn feed instead of grass.....as long as you are not eating at McDonald's that is ;)

Review.

For reasons beyond my control we ended up at Binions rather than the Steak house at Circus Circus.

The service was top notch, my steak was fabulous, her prime rib was very good. The portion size's are huge, I mean obscenely huge, there is no way a normal human can eat the slab of meat that was served, they do offer "child's" portions, though these are not listed on the menu and we found out after, I would ask about these.

My steak at Prime Bellagio was ruddy gorgeous, and the brandy and cigars on the terrace was a lovely touch.

Circus Circus $100/person.

I really can not praise Craftsteak enough, everything about this restaurant is exceptional.

And I may be mistaken, but I think it is the only one serving Kobe on a regualar basis.

True, but it's not kobe, it is Australian Wagyu beef.

We ate at Craftsteak, the maitre d' insisted it was Kobe, it was not - and at $99.00 for a small (6oz?) steak, it should have been. [n]

In their own press release it says they use Aussie Wagyu, the MD should know better than to say it is the real thing.

This was a couple of years ago Dave, not sure such a level of openness existed then? Don't get me wrong, it was a good piece of steak, it just was not what they claimed it was.

I know, but if you have had real Kobe you will know the difference (as long as it is cooked correctly) in the first bite, if you havn't had real Kobe then you may well be a happy camper.

If I hadn't had the real thing, I probably would have been a "happy camper" paid up and gone home (well to Bellagio actually), feeling very content, as I said it was a good steak, just not what it was being sold as. I have also had Wagyu which was better than the cross they sold me but that was a pure bread.
