I'm flying Delta in economy class in February in the USA (not part of a transatlantic itinerary.) Does anyone know whether checked baggage fees will be waived for VS gold members (I'm a VS gold.)

This is the only information I could find from the Virgin Atlantic website:
Priority baggage, Check in, Boarding and Security with Delta Air Lines.^ You will also enjoy Extra Baggage (extra piece of baggage is available in Economy Class only) and access to preferred seating.

I know as a regular economy passenger flying Delta, one would have to pay $$$ for checked luggage though not sure how it works for VS Gold members.

Has anyone flown Delta in economy class for travel within the USA that's not part of a transatlantic itinerary? If so, did Delta charge you for your checked luggage?

I don't ever travel with checked luggage in the US, so I can't say for certain, but I think - yes - you are entitled to one free checked bag in DL domestic as VS Au.

What happens to me is: I make my DL booking, and once it's confirmed (or during the purchase process), I plug in my VS Au number. This immediately changes my status to SkyPriority, and then gives me access to Economy Comfort seating while also putting me on the upgrade list for First Class. If I remember rightly, it also changes - at that point - the baggage allowance to permit one free bag.

But, as I said, although I fly a lot of US domestic flights, I never check a bag! Perhaps you should call up DL to confirm?

Can confirm NYLON's experience.

JFK>MCO return on DL. After putting my AU number into the confirmation screen, I got to choose EconomyComfort seating, SkyPriority issued on my boarding pass and a free checked bag for which I used the Priority Bag Drop at the terminal. I used TSA-Pre cause I've got Global Entry to get through security and then boarded early in the process because of the Sky Priority.

Like NYLON I travel with hand luggage only - Just managed three weeks in SF on just hand luggage. Makes leaving the airport and get on with your day so much easier!

Thanks! I did put in my VS Au number after I bought the ticket. I see SKY PRIORITY and was also able to change my seat to economy comfort. However, for luggage info, it just directed me to Delta's baggage policy (which doesn't include VS Au information.) I have a feeling they will be free but I just wanted to check with you guys if anyone had ever travelled with checked luggage.
I travel in 3 weeks so I'll report back my experience then! Thank you again!

Long time admirer of this site, this subject made me register and post a reply.

Totally unclear butI had this exact same issue last week, flying LAS to JFK in economy (X). Myself (Virgin AU) and my wife (no status) arrived with 3 bags for checking and they took all for free (2 of which were over 23kgs but under 32kgs). They give the same allowance as Gold Medallions on Delta Status, and in addition will give anyone in your party the same allowance. This is completely different to the one free checked bag that Virgin suggest is the allowance. We also got economy comfort seats which are same width as economy but more leg room (you also get free entertainment through their wifi, but have to pay for surfing)

I fly Delta all the time internally and have never been charged a fee for checked bags - when you check in online state how many bags you check and the cost should stay ZERO.

You will get sky priority also which is nice as boarding by zones can be brutal. ENJOY
