Can't tell you about New Year because I haven't been there then but when we were there the Gold Souk was good to visit and we both enjoyed the desert safari

And dune bashing, and a camel ride into the desert at sunrise (Tres romantic), and the sailing isn't bad for that matter, although steer clear of Homuze.

Desert safari
Wild Wadi
Abra trip across Dubai creek
Gold/spice souk
Hatta fortress
Big bus tour
BEACH
Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Diving/sailing/watersports (not sure how hot it is in Jan? - probably UK summer temp;))
Mall of the Emirates (if you like shopping[:?])

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and The Dubai Desert Classic (Golf) are both around the beginning of the year so you might be lucky and be there when they're on:D

There's also lots under construction so there'll be even more stuff to do by the time you're there:D

The Dubai Desert classic isn't on till Feburary/March time of the year. But if you like golf then check out my golf guide to Dubai on the VS website under the flying club swingers section

Yea so if you do Ski Dubai AND Wild Wadi you can buy a package that saves you some money. Basically you get two tickets; one for Wild Widi and one for Ski Dubai. I would avoid Wild Widi/ Ski Dubai on Friday's as it very busy day. I was told it is like Sunday in the UK/US; a family day.

Also for skiing the package includes everything but gloves and a hat. The sell them or bring your own. They include a jacket, ski pants, skis, poles and boots. Remember to put your 'lift ticket' in the upper left sleve pocket as it will save time when going in the gate. The lift ticket is a smart card. Also bring some money when you go skiing as there is a cafe in the middle of the slop.

Nor would I... but the cafe on the slope is neat.

My typing is sloppy today, and most days.

Chris,

If you go to the Burj and are not staying there I think you have to pay to get in - I'll try and find out how much...[:?]

Well it is free but the meal or drinks cost a bunch. You have to plan and make a reservation so your name will be on the guest list that allows your cab onto the Burj island. You can walk around the hotel once past the gate.

As Ben mentioned, to enter the Burj you must either have a room or dinner reservation. They are very strict about who they let in now.

Is it just me or does Dubai sound like nothing more than a lot of sand, building work and expensive dining?
