Hi,

Has anyone heard any new rumours on when the security restrictions will be lifted.

I can't cope on a 24hr flight without my toiletries [:0][n]

I don't think this is the sort of thing you will hear with any reliability on the rumour mill. I see you are flying on 12 November, so I would assume the current restrictions will still be in place I am afraid. Most importantly, remember beauty is from with in, so I am sure you will look a stunner whether you can take your toiletries or not [y]

I think I can survive the LHR-LAX without scaring too many small children, but I was hoping to have a shower at LAX before the last leg to AKL

You can take some things, like lipstick AFAIK - just not liquid toiletries. If you pick up your checked-in luggage at LAX, you could take out a toiletry bag there, use its contents and then re-check your luggage with the bag back in.

Ahhhhhhhhh just had a closer look at the BAA site. I had been looking at the AirNZ site which says there's extra restrcitions for US flights and that you can't take ANY cosmetics or toiletries.

Do I go by the BAA site then [?] I might be able to survive with powder and blusher, so long as I get some moisturiser and lip balm on the flight.

I strongly suggest you do stick to the BAA site - the information on there is what the security staff at LHR will be working to. No Liquids, pastes or gels I am afraid. But you can buy stuff airside to slap on (Although you should not take it onto the plane as you are going to LAX rather than a non-us destination). Should you try and sneak stuff through the boarding gate, there are plenty of stories on other forums of people succeeding. But I have to tell you they even found a lighter in the dark recesses of my carry on (even I didn't know it was there, honest!) so be prepared to loose your stash and expect some serious questions. Alternatively you could buy supplies at LAX, but of course they will sting you.

Or you could just enjoy your flight............

Just to clarify, Lipgloss is not a solid cosmetic and will not be allowed through security.

Since all this shenanigans started, I have stocked up with solid deodorant, solid shaving soap and tooth powder. Problem solved!

Under current BAA restrictions no matter where you are flying to you can buy cosmetics/liquids once in the departure lounge TSA restrictions for once you land in the US allow about 4 or 5 travel sized bottles into a quart sized zip lock bag so you should manage fine.

I'm taking latex gel, fake blood and spirit gum to New York later this month. Probably best in the hold I'm guessing.....

VS haven't updated their hand baggage page on the website to reflect this yet, though. They are still saying that no liquids at all will be allowed onto US-bound planes. BAA (and DFT, though their guidance seems thin) are saying that you can take any liquids you have purchased in the departure lounge after security.

Someone is making an absolute fortune selling liquids in departures!

BTW, the bag you take must be (IIRC) 54x46x24cmish, or measurements around that[:I]
