AMEX Gold to Platinum-Worth the Cost?

I've had a gold Amex for 20 years, and they have bugged me to upgrade to Plat for years. Now it's nearly constant - 'You're Pre-Approved' comes up as soon as I log into their website.

I can get my Gold and Membership Rewards for less than $130, and Platinum is triple that and more. I know there are more perks for Platinum cards (like the companion tix-I mostly travel alone), but are they worth the extra $$? That's a lot of hay, cat litter, and dog biscuits if it's just for the 'prestige' of a Platinum card. Whoop-de-la about that. What I want is service and value for my money.

I use my Amex almost exclusively unless I have to use another card, so finding places to use it isn't an issue. This would be an Amex-issued card from Amex Centurion Bank, not one of the affiliate ones.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi There

I changed to Platinum last year and have to say I have more then recouped my annaul fee just in the savings I have made in family travel insurance and car rental insurance.

Both my wife and myself have also made use of the Priority Pass membership.

I really think it comes down to whether the benefits work for you.

Just my 2c worth
