Greater choice of carrier on the LHR-LAX route.

Air France have now started a LHR-LAX service a 7 days a week departing at 17.00 and arriving in LAX at 20.15 PT return leg departs LAX at 20.25 and arrives LHR 14.40 (next day), the route is currently serviced by Boeing 777 aircraft.

Hope the service and amenities have improved since I flew CDG - LAX a few years back. Wish I'd taken the UA option I'd been offered..

Good to see some more competition though..

I am trying to figure out the market justification for this. If the fares were discounted, as NZ have done for some time on this route, I could understand it, but they don't appear to be.

The thought is that the O & D market is big enough at both ends and that with the DL FF base in SO Cal they should be able to fill up the plane....should...not so sure.

And with the pending NW/DL merger, maybe even more seats get filled. As Scrooge says, however, 'should' applies here. With airfares heading northward and the US economy in the doldrums seats may go begging.

True but it was interesting that DL were not chomping at the bit to operate the route. The truth was that DL wanted to keep the a/c on more profitable routes.

Well interesting bit is that if the IFBT and bar go, VS and NZ will have a very similar. At LHR there is the CH for VS folks but but VS and NZ use the NZ Koru Lounge in LAX.
