News on Business Traveller
here.
There was an eighteen month trial where this wasn't enforced during which, presumably (maybe we haven't heard), there hasn't been a security 'event'. So I wonder why laptops out again, what is the point, can anyone inform me?

Yes I read that in last months issue - no idea why but doubt it was an security related incident as they reversed the decision after the trial ended so looks like some jobs worth making a point.

It's been like this for 3 or 4 weeks at Heathrow (ie laptops out)
When questioned about the change, the security people mumble about 'European conformity'
What the truth is, god knows

I noticed this recently too but thought it might have been an exercise on BAA's part to keep us on our toes. I have missed having someone shout at me to remove my laptop from my bag [:D]
Thanks,
Sarah

Couple of weeks ago I had to take it out of the bag I was carrying it in but could leave it in the neoprene cover.
Was the same policy at EWR on my return.

This does make some sense: I ahve to admit to being frustrated by the lack of consistency, eg shoes on or off, laptops out or not etc etc. Makes you feel like a noob.
An excuse I heard at a security line was that changing the procedure every now and then catches out the bad boys. Wow, I feel so safe now.

In addition, one of the security guys at GLA told me that the DOT had instructed them to turn up the sensitivity on the detectors - you can guess what the result was....even my cufflinks set it off! Queues everywhere!
Cheers,
