Good Restaurants LA/Santa Monica and Washington DC?

Hi guys, looking for some good restaurant reconsiderations for the big trip in September.
We are looking for suggestions in LA, Santa Monica and then in DC? I seem to see lots of places particularly around DuPont circle?
Santa Moncia needs a good sea view!!

cant help as good, but i plan on looking on :-

I want some good honest food, rather than the expensive pretentious crap that is served with pea puree and has about a spoonful of food spread out on plate.
i think there is a ramsay gastro pub in LA?

In Washington, 18th street has a great range of bars and places to eat. Not sure what type of dining you are after but one of our favs was Smoke and Barrel. Great food and if you like beers then you can't be disappointed.
If you like Indian food, then Rasika in the Penn Quarter was fantastic, it's a more up market Indian compared to your typical Indian over here, but the food and service were both excellent.
Du Point Circle has a number of bars and Restaurants, but we preferred 18th street.
