Oh oh ...I've been Honey Lambed

.
Check in at HKG about an hour ago . No indication on the monitors overhead but long snaking queue around the tensa barriers and a small queue ( of two people) to the right ( couple in their 70s , him in chinos , deck shoes and jacket with her similarly attired).
Figuring that they couldn't send us to the back of the long snaking queue we went and stood behind them . He having looked Mr DL and I up and down asked " are you looking for the Club Class queue ?" ( in a tone that clearly indicted that he didn't think we were - wife's lips pursing as if we were contagious ).
" Oh dear " says I " we need to be in the First queue. I suppose this will have to do "
Her face fell through the floor.... ): . ( and his wasnt far behind lol).Priceless
Anyway we're now ensconced in the CX F lounge . I've had a lovely bath in a cabana and the good folks from the Peninsula are feeding and watering us ( and very good they are too).
DL

DL - you rascal!
So, do we now have a new V-Flyer verb - "to be HoneyLambed"? Hmmm

I seem to recall you having been HL'd before by a chauffeur - you were in a hotel lobby with another couple, your driver came in and decided the other couple were his passengers. Or is my flu :$ playing tricks with my memory?

What a glorious moment, DL. For some reason I see the Chino Man wearing a striped jacket and with a boater ...
Enjoy your flight.

Nothing wrong with your memory Paul lol ( that was the chauffeur when we flew EK F on the 380

) ).
hiljil he didn't have a boater but did have striped socks ( which looked oddly out of place with the rest of his combo :0 ).
Mr DL and I obviously look like a pair of bogans' (favourite new Aussie word)

Well I've just had a wander to the Qantas lounge ( where Mr and Mrs Middle England are located).
Very glad I took joey and NYLON's recommendations for the CX F lounge . The Qantas lounge is enormous and rather reminiscent of an aircraft hanger.
Just time for one more drink by my reckoning

DL how can you be so cruel to a fellow traveller who was obviously, out of the goodness of his heart, only trying to make sure that you weren't lost. ):

) .
Enjoy the rest of your lounge time and the flight home. Oh, and BTW, fabulous put down line. oo)

We avoided the same fate on our EK Chauffeur collection in Sydney only by making sure we were the only people in reception (and even then he seemed more inclined to invite the guy who was hoovering the hotel carpet).

Love it!!
I would have loved to see their faces, nothing like putting Mr and Mrs middle England in their places.
I get them all the time in work looking me up and down, always from Abergavenny, raglan and Monmouth! (No offence daffodil)
Hope you had a great flight and delivered some First champagne to your "friends"

They were indeed

- again another priceless couple of expressions from them as the ( excellent) crew held them back do we could disembark as L1 not working.
Now in Galleries waiting for my bath to be filled

.
We had an even snootier passenger in the F queue - she referred to the economy passangers as " normal people "and was outraged ( remonstrating loudly)!that some Y souls ( in wheelchairs) were being boarded first !

We're all chuckling at this (including me)...
But seriously - what on earth possesses folk to behave like this? What are they achieving/gaining? I suppose they want others to think "Oh gosh, they must be very important/rich/royal/celeb people to be travelling like that" - I wonder, does it actually have the desired effect on anyone?
I have enough faith in human kind to hope that most will see it for exactly what it is - pathetic...
Anyway, really looking forward to the TRs...
And, HL says "I've excelled myself this time..." - hmmm, looking forward to that one!

Clearly completely lacking in self awareness. I think most will see it as you say, but there is unfortunately still an undercurrent of "money makes you a better / more interesting/ worthwhile person" in our media. I, for example, have never been afforded the opportunity invite Grazia into my lovely home, and my self esteem has suffered accordingly.
When people bang on about the 'normal', I am reminded of
this scene from "Young Frankenstein"

When some people are moneyed, there is a danger that they'll become somewhat detached from reality. This ends up as a sort of endearing eccentricity in a few people. With others, it manifests itself in uniquely unpleasant ways, as Mrs Snooty in the F queue so ably demonstrated!

I dont get the rush to get on a plane. Apart from the fight to secure some overhead locker space - I prefer to board later. Not like the plane is going anywhere until everyone is boarded.
One thing I do with euro hopping on a budget airline is to book my seat for the few pounds extra (much better than priority boarding) - if you secure the bulkhead seats then you can store your stuff under your seat, so no need to worry about overhead locker... plus you can get on last & enjoy the spacious departure lounge a bit longer. If bulkheads arent available, then I pay for priority boarding to get me some locker space!
