Is it possible to upgrade Economy to Business using Virgin miles on Delta?

Surprisingly tricky question, and I am sure that one of the others will jump in if their interpretation differs from mine as to how the deal is structured.

DL can process cabin upgrades using DL miles on VS operated flights assuming the flight was marketed and purchased through Delta directly - it's something you will have to speak with reservations about so grab yourself a cup of tea whilst you wait out the near endless on hold music.

I can only assume that the reverse is also possible, so, assuming that you purchased the Delta flight through Virgin as opposed to from DL directly, they might be able to process cabin upgrades using VS miles - it seems only fair. Again, it's something that you'll need to call VS reservations or FC about, so prepare to hear endless repeats of Madonna's 'Holiday'

Thanks for advice. Booked with DL so I guess we'll have to see. Would I better calling DL in the case?
