We booked Main Cabin Extra seats with AA. The airline has changed the aircraft and our new seats are not Main Cabin Extra. Do we have any redress?

Yes, you are entitled to a refund of the extra seat upgrade fee. From
aa.com :
Refunds issued for seats
We'll issue you a refund if:
You pay to upgrade to First or Business
You pay more for another seat on the same flight (but not if you change to a lower priced or free seat)
You cancel your flight within 24 hours and booked at least 2 days before departure
You cancel, rebook and buy seats on your new flight
We cancel your flight and we're unable to get you a comparable seat on another flight rebooked by us*
We delay your flight causing you to miss a connection and we're unable to get you a comparable seat on another flight*
You’re denied boarding on an oversold flight and we're unable to get you a comparable seat*
*Unable to get you a comparable seats is defined as moving from Main Cabin Extra to a preferred or other Main Cabin seat or from an aisle / window Main Cabin Extra seat to a middle Main Cabin Extra seat

James, do you think we would lose the extras ie like snacks and drinks which were included with our fare if we asked for a partial refund?

More than likely as if you end up sitting in the standard economy cabin, you will just get the standard economy service.

Think we will just take the hit as by the time we have to pay for luggage and anything on the flight there is probably not much difference, plus all the hassle to trying to recover the cost. Will take this as a learning experience, when they rebook your seat check it is on the same aircraft type and where you are seated. Just because its the same seat number does not equate to original seat location.
We are on VA to Miami this Friday and have prebooked our meal - hopefully we will get our choices.
Many thanks for your input.
Kind regards
