This all happened a few weeks ago now so please forgive the brevity…

Finally, the day had arrived. We were off to LHR to catch our long-awaited flight to MIA for a two week break in the sun (or so we thought!). The private car picked us up from home at the appointed hour and before we knew it, we were being welcomed at DTCI by a vision in red ^) ^) Bags disappeared as if by magic, boarding cards issued and off to the Clubhouse without further ado :D :D

We were guesting-in a fellow V-Flyer’s parents so left their names at the Clubhouse reception and off to the spa to book our treatments. This was not our first time in the LHR Clubhouse but the first time we have availed ourselves of the spa so both excited at the prospect. Duly booked in for a massage (MrB) and a facial (MrsB) and while we waited for our slots, we settled down for breakfast and a bucks fizz (or two!). Breakfast was excellent as was the service.

The spa treatments were really good. Lovely ladies in the spa, very chatty and friendly. We both left feeling totally relaxed and ready for the holiday to begin!

We toddled off to the gate after a few more “Brambles” at the bar (love that thing they do with crushed ice and a lemon squeezer to make a little ice cup and then add a blackberry covered in glitter – so girly) ^)

I did ask for the name of the plane but promptly forgot as the first glass of champagne was delivered (well, you’ve got to get your priorities right ;) ). The plane was a 747 (don’t ask me to get anymore technical than that) and we were in 12A/K. First time in those seats and superb for a couple.

The flight passed in a bit of a blur, lunch was very good, washed down with some nice wine and one set of black Orville and Wilbur S&P secreted in luggage (we did ask). Had a couple of drinks at the bar and a quick sleep and before we knew it, we were landing at MIA.

We had approx two and half hours to make the connection to our Key West flight so took some advice we had been given (thanks Hales!) and got on one of the carts that are waiting for deplaning passengers. It is a long walk to immigration and these little carts saved a lot of time and effort. There was a bit of queue at immigration but we were through in less than an hour which is pretty good from all that I have read. Bags collected and off we went in search of AA. Easy check-in and within a couple of hours of landing in MIA were at the gate waiting for our flight to Key West. A bit of delay but nothing too bad and we finally arrived at our hotel in Key West at 10pm.

A very long day but worth it to get all the travelling over in one day.

And so our holiday in the Keys began. Thankfully the weather improved (60F to 90F in a week) and we had a ball. Thanks to V-Flyers for all the recommendations of restaurants and places to go - all excellent y) y) y) I am pretty sure we will be going back – it was such a great place.

Many thanks for reading.

Sounds like an experience that ticked all the boxes.

Was it your first time in the Keys? If so I'd be interested in your opinion on them as a holiday destination as MrsPJH and I were debating whether to take a trip there at some point...

Thanks for putting the TR together.

Hi pjh

Yes, first time in the Keys. We really enjoyed KW, loads to do and we didn't even scratch the surface of things to do on the water. Feb is still a bit chilly for being in the water and whilst we were there, there were several windy days which curtailed some of the water based activities. We had 5 days in KW with no car and felt this was about right. We then drove up to Key Largo for another three nights before heading up to Orlando. There is not nearly as much land based stuff to do in KL as in KW but plenty of water based activities. If you are into diving / snorkelling / sailing / kayaking / fishing or just bumming about on the water, you would be in heaven.

Glad everything clicked into place for you and you had a good time.
It is funny how reading someone else's happy experiences makes me feel really happy too !

Thanks for the TR. On the same flight at the end of April. We are also headed for the Keys, Islamorada about half way down. We visited Key West last time we were there and loved it.
