After a generally good experience on the way out, I was looking forward to experiencing the Virgin 747 ... I had managed to secure Economy seats in Upper Deck.
As we were in Orlando, we decided to go to Downtown Disney for the check-in. All the people working there were really nice and welcoming. It was a very refreshing approach I have to say ! Luggage was taken while boarding passes were issued.
We had arranged a private transfer to the airport so we could spend the rest of the day in Downtown Disney.
Our flight was scheduled for 19.50 so we left around 17.00.
Arrived at the airport, we browsed the shops around and went straight through security. A bit of a queue but I could experience the body scanner, which was quite interesting.
Once airside, we were quite early so not much to do but with free wifi, it wasn't too bad.
Boarding was called by rows and again we waited for our row to be called.
I was quite excited as it was the first time I was flying on the upper deck.
We were quite lucky as 77C wasn't taken so we had a bit more space for ourselves.
As per the outbound flight, food was good and this time, IFE worked straight away !! Whoo hoo !!
Once again, cabin crew was ok but unpersonal and cold and I thought a bit on "minimal effort mode" ...
Flight was delayed by almost 1 hour. 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the aircraft and another 30 minutes, officially due to paperwork delay but since then, I've understood that it was due to the Manchester-bound Virgin flight birdstrike incident.
I've actually seen G-VKSS coming back to the gate but only thought it was a delayed arrival from Manchester due to snow.
Flight was only about 7 hours so we landed in Gatwick about 10 minutes later than scheduled.
Once again, a very pleasant flight, except for the slight disappointment of the cabin crew.
Looking forward to flying again with Virgin in whichever class.

I throughly preferred it to the main deck ... But as mentioned in the TR, the 3rd seat was free, this was was helped. However I had the window seat and really liked the extra storage ...
