Stayed over in London prior to flight and arrived LHR at around 10.00

Check in was smooth, quick and efficient and we headed to the Virgin lounge. This was a first trip to the Lounge, it's an extremely nice place and very welcoming. Ordered Eggs benedict and a bottle of Peroni (odd combination I know) and sat down on a table next to Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) who was on his way to LA. Had a 10 minute chat and he was kind enough to chat to my daughter on the telephone also.

The time passed quickly and we headed to the Aircraft for boarding, straight on with no queues and greeted by name. Champagne and nibbles were served quickly followed by a few glasses of Grolsch. Took off on time with no dramas.

We were sitting in 3K and 4K. I would recommend that 4K and 5K would be better as when the toilets get busy people can congregate near 3K.

Shortly afterwards dinner orders were taken but I declined dinner and just ordered (you guessed it,) another glass of Grolsch. However, the long haired colonel ordered Beef and assured me it was lovely.

The in flight entertainment worked as advertised although only the colonel used it. I went straight to sleep for the rest of the flight only waking for sandwiches and the cream teas which are damn tasty.

The inflight staff were amazing, chatty and obviously enjoy their work. I had imagined that making the bed was a laborious process until I found the "make bed button" and promptly made it myself in a minute or two.

Landed on time, off aircraft double quick and through immigration in less than an hour. There was a problem with immigration in that I had supplied ESTA details from my work passport and used my civvie passport to enter the US, this was sorted very quickly by producing my ID card.

Great flight, great people but.......... I do prefer the BA business class seat.

Regards

Nice of Harry to speak to your daughter - must have been a shock for her :D

You say you prefer the BA Club Class seat - what wins on the Lounge front??

Thank you for posting your TR. I'm taking this flight at the end of April so I read your post with great interest. We have a different configuration with UC both upstairs & downstairs so have gone for seats 14&15A downstairs ( Hope I've made the right decision ) but our usual choice is 3&4K when flying the other configuration.

Meeting Daniel Radcliffe was a lucky break, my Daughter was thrilled to talk to him on the telephone.

As for the BA and Virgin Business class lounges, there isn't a great deal in it either way and neither Lounge would sway my choice of whom to fly with in a private capacity. As for work I only get to use BA or Crab Air so don't have a choice. I haven't used the BA First Class Lounge so can't comment.

On the returning flight we were on a 747 and sat in 15K and 16K down stairs which were great seats, very private and the front of the A/C was so quiet.

Regards

Good of Daniel Radcliffe to speak to your daughter on the phone. I imagine that the celebs constantly get requests like this, not sure if I could deal with it and keep my cool.

Eggs Benedict and Peroni sounds good to me :w

Your work passport? Diplomatic service, armed forces or other? :P

Cheers for posting 8D

Joey,

Armed forces yes.

One thing I will add, I'm not too keen on the herring bone UC seating arrangements, its pretty well nigh on impossible to converse with a travel companion and as for looking out of a window, forget it unless you want a cricked neck. Not sure what Virgin were thinking when they designed the cabin layout.

How did that work out for them? They seem to have missed a trick by not adding a couple of seats between 15/16 A and K.

Does any other airline use the Herringbone configuration?
