V-Flyer

VIt was the perfect kind of day to leave the UK, cold, damp and foggy. Our car picked us up at 8:30 and after an easy ride along the M4, M25 and M20 we found ourselves at the UC check in area at LGW where the agents were falling over themselves to assist. Great customer service and in no time at all, we were on our way. Security was a breeze and as we didn't require anything from the shops, headed straight for the sanctuary that is the LGW CH.

A very warm welcome at the CH and after a quick stop off at the spa to book treatments, we bagged a couple of seats overlooking the gates. As we were travelling on Valentines Day, it seemed rude not to accept the offer of His 'n' Hers Valentines cocktails - very good they were too! We were lucky enough to be able to book treatments (so often the spa is too busy at this time of day to be able to book anything) and both enjoyed a back massage.

All too soon our flight was called so we made our way to the gate and were pretty much the last to board. We had managed to secure our favourite 6A/K seats - best seats for a couple on the 747 in my humble opinion.

Once again, we were aboard Ruby Tuesday and it was a full flight with only two empty seats so pax count was 351 I believe.

The crew were fabulous throughout the flight. I only spotted the FSM once and that was in the galley but she had a great crew who were clearly on top of their game. We were looked after by a wonderful guy who reminded me of Ewan McGregor - lovely chap! He and his fiancé were looking after UC and they made a great team, on the aircraft and presumably off it too!

Champagne was offered on boarding and accepted (obviously!). Good to see they have reverted to flutes rather than the coupe glasses - makes so much more sense given the size of the drinks tray. The coupe glasses now seem to be re-purposed as lemon and lime receptacles on the bar!

Now, I do like a G&T but I really do not like Bombay Sapphire (Tanqueray for me every time) so I decided not to have my normal tipple but try the Blighty Mohito instead - very good. So good in fact that I had several throughout the flight - note to self to look out for this mix once back in the UK - lush! Mr B is more of a vodka chap and he thoroughly enjoyed the Vodka Mohitos too!

Lunch was soon set up and served. We elected to eat together and both had Smoked Salmon Cuplet followed by Chicken teriyaki, both excellent and washed down with several glasses of the Marlborough Savignon Blanc (I think a couple of glasses of water found their way into the mix but can't be sure, hic!). After lunch, we both settled down to watch Gone Girl, it was OK but not as good as the book, the characters seemed lacking somehow...

Had a bit of a gossip with the crew half way throughout the flight, lovely people. This was followed by a snooze and afternoon tea which was good but not excellent, the cake stand is still in action and still hated by the crew it would seem. We were having a bit of a joke with 'Ewan' about it as he was serving teas and the cake stand promptly collapsed, perfect timing!

All too soon we were coming into land. Another great flight from VS, it is good to see them still at the top of their game.

Nice TR - more evidence, were it needed, that it is the crew and their mind set that makes the difference.
