After catching an Uber to LAS we easily found the check in area and quickly made our way to an open desk. They were selling upgrades to Upper for $1500 each which was a well out of our range so despite my wife's best efforts she had to accept we would be 'slumming' it in PE after our wonderful flight out in Upper. I did say a month before that we could have used the rest of our miles instead of the PE upgrade voucher but she was set on NY next year so we held them back for that instead.
After going through the 'fast track' security (which was slower than the normal line) we had just over an hour until boarding so caught the train from E over to the D concourse to make use of the Amex Centurion lounge via our Platinum cards. It was pretty busy but we found a comfy seat to relax in. My wife made use of the printers to get a head start on work so i went to the bar. It had a fairly decent selection of beers and spirits so I sampled a few of these whilst my wife had a couple glasses of prosecco. There was a hot buffet but I wasn't that hungry so just had a small plate of beef stew which wasn't too bad. We lost track of time and had a bit of a panic thinking we would be pushing it but the train back took less than a minute and boarding was late opening so we ended up timing it perfectly.
We had the last row in PE upstairs in the bubble and the seats were pretty spacious and the IFE seemed to be working fine. We managed to get 2 glasses of fizz before take off then some wine before and during the meal. I had the pork and the wife had the mushroom veggie option which looked a bit gross so she ended up having some of mine. After the lights went off i reclined and put on a film. Can't rememeber the name but it was a comedy with John Cena not too bad. Then i put on the classic Goonies which was as good as I remember.
The problem with the flight was it was just too early for a night flight and I found it hard to sleep when it was only 8pm in my head! I did manage to doze off for an hour but that was it. Breakfast was a bit poor, a pain au chocolat and some fruit which I forced down.
I managed to get through another film before we landed, about 45 mins early. Unfortunately despite seeing 3 of our bags come off straight away the last one was pretty much the very last off! At least we were still early enough that we were able to get an earlier National Express bus home.
Overall if it wasn't for the slightly bigger seat I wouldnt have noticed any difference from economy, but with it being a free upgrade from the credit card voucher at least we didnt pay any more for it.
