We've had two weeks of the new Government, and already they're rumoured to be corrupt, sheesh. Nothing changes since Mr Hamilton and his ilk!

Or Elliott Morley or David Chaytor or Jim Devine (for the uninitiated, they're the Labour MPs who, unlike Neil Hamilton, are currently being prosecuted over their 'expenses claims').

Not that I'm the right person to be leaping to the defence of a Lib-Dem MP...

Just to keep some balance there is a Tory - Lord Hanningfield from Essex who has also being charged.

BUT all innocent until proved guilty eh chaps ?

I would like to imagine this conversation

Nick Clegg - 'David you are sacked'

David Laws - 'I agree with Nick'

Cut me and I bleed blue. However, I think we'd make truly awful MPs, Slink; we're both far too honest for that line of work...

:? The Whips office surely must have known about this, or Francis Urquhart will be turning in his grave. Why does it come out now?

The Torygraph have had this info for a while and may even have released it last year but then David Laws was an unknown politician and there were bigger fish to fry and scalps to take. But that was then !

Why now?

Well Mr Laws is now a senior Cabinet minister so his past dealings are being rescrutinised and delved into deeper than before.

Lots of axes to grind against him - the cuts he has announced have upset lots of politicians - some say he's been too hard, some too easy. Same goes for parts of the media.

Maybe someone is after his job? so a bit of jealousy thrown into the mix.

Maybe someone just wants to destabilise the coalition - there are enough people in both the Tory and Lib Dems parties who are not exacly happy about the coalition. (see Vince Cables less that stella performance on Newsnight last week ...)
