Just an update on things...I really couldn't face ECON all the way to SFO and for the connecting flight to YVR. So, I have decided to go on a spending frenzy on my husband's AMEX (I did consult him about this first!) in order to get him up to the 62,500 miles for PE. He has 57,596 and 156 sitting on his AMEX, plus £36 he just spent. So that's up to 194 to transfer. Now, this is where my talent for spending money comes in. I've just spent over £3.5K in a matter of minutes:
£3492 settling our summer holiday and paying on AMEX to deliberately incur a 1.5% charge and ramp up the price (have you sensed the desperation yet? [:I]) My first ever order on Virgin Wines so that's another 1065 miles 153 left by my calculations - any ideas?!!
I really wish they hadn't moved the goal posts as I need to get this tied up in 14 days and I just called to find that PE reward availability is only 2 seats each way for the dates we want in Oct - bugger!!!

Guys n gals - what's honestly the likelihood that they'll still be avilable in a few days?

The lovely lady I spoke to said she can only hold them for 48 hours and can do that if hubby is in process of transferring the miles from AMEX to FC account [:#]

Please please please keep your fingers crossed that this all comes off or I've gone on a spending bender for nowt...and I haven't finished yet [:w]

Cool. I'm going to try to book the Econ seats tomorrow (just so we can say we're going (most trips I have ever been on in one year in my life :D)) then will see how the miles tot up on the AMEX. That'll decide how quickly I can check availability for upgrades.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. You really are superstars at looking after less-experienced flyers like me [:I] [oo]

Let me second those thoughts Jacqueline. I often feel like a real luddite - the saying 'the more I find out, the less I know' springs to mind. When the boys here begin talking about the model (and names too) of planes, as well as the pros and cons of various in-flight entertainment system, I feel like a babe in arms.

Thanks to you all for the help you've given me in the short while I've been here.

And for the help I hope you'll give in the future!

Why not spend the night away at a partner hotel and earn the miles?

Thanks,

You can upgrade a reward ticket, of course there needs to be avaialbility. You need to call FC and they will make the cahnge and charge what the reward flight would have been in the first place.

Thanks; that's nice to know :)

Another brief update...just transferred 3500 miles from hubby's AMEX account to his FC account. As soon as I did that, I then called FC and put the flights on hold. They're on hold for 48 hours only so now we're at the mercy of points transfers - I'm sure my AMEX one took 2-3 days. The Virgin Wines were bought Tuesday and have apparently left the warehouse so the 1750 miles from there shouldn't take too much longer [ii]

Fingers crossed...

FINAL UPDATE...you guessed it, the miles appeared and we're off to Vancouver via SFO and in PE both ways :D:D:D:D:D We're connecting up to YVR wiht Air Canada as they seemed most competitive.

Blinking swift job Virgin Wines and AMEX [^][oo]

There was a fleeting moment where the lovely lady on tother end of the phone said "computer says no, says there aren't enough miles..." [:(] but then all was good. I had a quick panic thinking that the new spending applied to flights after 28th Feb, and not bookings - phew!

Well, just thought I'd share my great news. It's the most transatlantic flights I've been on in such a short time - ever [8D]

Better go change my countdowns and put the flights on trip itineraries then.

That's great news. And with the SFO fleet grouded for maintenance in Oct, thank god you're not flying in then; PE on the 3410's they are drafting in to cover don't have a proper PE, just seats with 2" extra legroom and a different coloured headcloth.

Sorry. I thought I had been heavy handed enough for posters to realise I was being lighthearted. Certainly didn't meant to confuse

Don't apologise Jeremy. It would have helped it I hadn't skim-read the entire thing....
