I'm in the new CH at the moment. The brasserie area is a good idea and ther's plenty of room. However, the new end seems to have music blaring out very loudly which isn't exactly what you want in the quiet library area.

Some good news is a much better set of lifestyle magazines and some much needed extra WCs between the library and the brasserie. The bit upstairs misses out the view, but as it is a grey Heathrow day I don't think I'll be braving the elements.

It does still feel like a single, cavernous room even if it is broken up a little better than before. Most importantly it's 9am on a Monday and there is space to sit down!

Was lucky enough to be in the lounge on opening day last Tuesday. On the VS7 but got there early enough to enjoy breakfast, a haircut, a shoeshine, 1 or 2 Redheads and the cricket on the enormous screen. Unfortunately, the boss had flown out the day before with the digital camera so I didn't get the chance to post any photos. Or, more likely, fail miserably to work out how to post any.

CH did get quite busy around 1030 but I have a feeling that there were a number of observers having a look see. Certain features felt a bit gimmicky (pool table, upstairs, outside terrace), but welcome nonetheless. Service all round was very attentive as you would expect. Staff only too happy to show anyone round. Atmosphere was quite buzzy and there were one or two bemused looks from "more mature" travellers as they sat down near the games area.

Having only visited the LGW Clubhouse once, this place knocks spots off that and the distance between the new CH and any BA, Maple Leaf or SAA lounge I have seen is light years. With a bit of luck I'll be on the 7 or the 23 next month and will be interested to see it again once things have settled down.

My impression from the photos and reports of facilities and experience of Phase I is that The Clubhouse is now one of, if not is, the best departure lounge in the world - even First Class ones. Does anywhere else really have facilities to rival the LHR CH? Ok the decor may not be to everyones taste but even so it is very impressive - a huge selling point over Club World the Terraces Lounge.

I agree Mat. Better than SQ F lounge in SIN, any Red Carpet Club.
