Companion Ticket

Can anyone advise what you actually receive when you are awarded a companion ticket from the Virgin credit card? I assume it is one complimentary ticket in economy??

it is one complimentary ticket in the same fare class that you pay for..ie you pay for UC you get a second UC ticket,PE you get a second one etc...these are based on reward seats so supply can be limited.

Welcome to the forum!

When you qualify, you will see an entry on your Flying Club statement (either online or in paper) that says ÔCongratulations, Virgin Companion Ticket Qualification' or something similar. If its with the Virgin Credit Card it should be credited automatically at the end of the year if you have passed the spending threshold.

You then need to either call Flying Club or go online to the VS website to make a booking to use it.

You need to purchase a ticket in a qualifying fare class to use your Companion Ticket. You can use the Companion Ticket on any cabin provided you book a qualifying fare in that cabin (so a J fare for Upper, W or S fare for PE and Y, B or L for Economy - and M class for some flights) Companion Tickets must be for the same date and flight as that of the paying passenger, and must be in the same or lower cabin. Companion Tickets dont earn Miles & Tier Points but are a very cost efficient way of doing an East Coast trip in PE.

Usage is subject to availibility but provided you are flexible and book in advance there shouldnt be any problems in using it - i have never had a problem utilising them.

Yes the gold renewal companion is the same thing.

I think I have now spent the required £15,000 on my Virgin CC but I will not have had my card for a year until October - do I have to wait until then to receive the companion voucher?

Unfortunately, yes. The voucher SHOULD be issued on the anniversary of your account. My own experience, and that of others on V-Flyer, is that they are often reticent in issuing it, and have to be chased up through the Member's Shop.

Sorry to hijack this thread but it is related to companion ticketing!

If I were to buy a companion ticket for the other half in PE (30k), am I right in staing it'd only effectively cost me about 15k after the mileage on my full-fare and silver-level bonus are factored in? i.e. The paid-ticket is still handled as any fare-paid ticket? (TP's n' all)

I'd probably be looking at LHR-SFO (so we can use the SFO Clubhouse on the return leg as a Gold Card holder!), hence the figures I've quoted above.

Correct - the qualifyign revenue fare earns miles and TP's like a normal ticket. So make sure the person who you want to earn the miles and TP's is the person named on the revenue ticket.
