Help with Companion Availability

Folks booked a K class PE ticket for a family member in Jan. Now another family member wanted a PE ticket on same flight, so I have upgraded the K so it qualify’s for a companion ticket but PE is on only avail on way out and Econ on return. FC said if availability is release in PE for the return they will re-ticket for no charge. Any ideas on how often I should check availability and the best way to do it? Thanks Andy

Best way is to book a dummy one-way "flight for miles" on the website. You can do this as often as you like, that way.

If it shows a flight on that day, in that class (regardless of if you have enough miles), a seat is available - so then you can call and grab it [y]

Out of interest, what did they charge you to upgrade the K fare to an upgradable fare? (I have still got to call FC about upgrading from a K fare to Upper Class on a future trip). Thanks.

I recently had a similiar prob for my wifes companion ticket in UC.... as soon as I reached the 7 day threshold FC were very helpful and as FC Au they released another seat for me even though it was very tight. As I say they were very helpful when they could have easily said a big NO.

305GBP which included a 100GBP change fee. Andy
