Can anybody tell me how far in advance a specific aircraft is assigned to a flight. I am on VS3 on 13th May and am wondering how far in advance I will know which aircraft I will be on.
(NB VS3 on 13th May in 09:30 LHR-JFK, not 14:00)

It will be approx one week before but this can still change due to unexpected circumstances such as the AC going tech or operational requirements.

Hi pmymmw,

The easy answer is you'll only *really* know when you're literally walking to the aircraft.

VS do not publish this information anywhere that is publicly accessible. You can get an idea of the likelihood of an aircraft by using this tool on the site ;)

Even then, there have been cases of pax having to be de-planed for an aircraft change so there are no guarantees [:?]

All flights are allocated to specific aircraft 14 days in advance but the information isn't available to the public and it doesn't mean that is the aircraft you will get. Many, many changes are made to the allocation during those 14 days for maintenance and operational requirements such as aircraft currently on check taking longer to complete so the whole hangar plan has to be re-arranged, there could be a defect with the aircraft that would prevent it from going somewhere such as the crew rest area not being usable would prevent it going on long flights etc etc.

As the others suggest until you are actually in the air there is no sure way of knowing which aircraft you are going to get.
