Window v Aisle?

Not wanting to hijack Gelding's thread I decided to create a new topic since Mark J asks an interesting question - window v aisle?

I myself go for the window every time, although when flying with Aer John I am mostly condemned to the aisle - or worse - the middle seat [:0] I do enjoy looking out during the flight and the one complaint I have about the suites is that it is not as easy as in conventional seating. I have also been able to take some great shots mid-flight. I have some stunning views of Greenland and some not so bad ones of Iran, taken on my flight back from Dubai

I get too distracted to use IFE so would rather read mags/trashy novels [:I] (the new Jilly Cooper is out and at over 800 pages, I reckon I could read it on my upcoming flight to LAX!)/guide books and see the progress on the map. I might indulge in some music, too. Of course the window seat is much less hassle for getting past someone in PE than Economy.

However, I am hoping my school laptop will have turned up by the time I go (brand new [8D]) so can start my TR mid-flight. I understand there is no power or anything in PE for laptops though....?

Generally aisle for me as Mrs g usually bags the window[n]

If flying alone I always go for the aisle as I prefer unrestricted access. I do like a window view though so if I get lucky and have the row to myself I'll usually move to the window. I know what you mean about the suite, I usually end up leaning overthe back of the seat with the camera but the big bonus of course is that you get a window AND an aisle!

Of course with UCS you get both![^]

I don't really mind either way - if you're on the window, you get those magnificent views and if you're on the aisle, then you have easy accessibility to the WCs etc.
However, on J2000, I prefer the window as you can still get up easily without having to clamber over someone like in PE (although having said that in J2000 if you were in the reclined position and so was your neighbour then getting up could get a bit tricky, especially if you'd slid down to somewhere underneath the seat in front;))

Never anything but the window for me.

Yep - window for me too, although if travelling with the Daught we take it in turns.

ISTBC but I seem to remember that on the 744 to and from MIA there were power outlets in the new style PE seats - so I think you will be OK!![y]


Edited after search - heres the bit from my TR - so you are OK if you have new PE seats!

And to reply to the topic - I prefer to have the aisle seat as its easier for getting in and out for the loo, walking around etc and Im not that bothered abut the window as there are only short times when you can actually see anything worthwhile out of it - and on an overnight flight it has no use whatsoever!!

I prefer the window seat everytime [y] Mainly for looking out of during taxi/take-off and landing.

From some of the suites it can be particularly difficult to see out the window, if you're in one these it takes some pretty good neck gymnastics to be able to get a decent view[:I]

Something I have always wondered is...do hettie men give in to their other halves and let the woman sit by the window, even though they have a secret wish that just for once, the woman would offer up a swap? [:?]

Perhaps chivalry, or at least being a 'gentleman' is not yet dead!

If flying Upper, I always go for a window seat (I prefer the ones on the right hand side of the cabin somehow!)

In economy it depends on the flight. If flying during the day I will go for a window seat, but if it's a night flight there is little to see, so prefer the access an aisle seat offers.

Sometimes I'm a window person and other times I'm not [:?] as I really dont like having to climb over people to get out when flying in Y.

This will probably be too much info but I can last several hours without a bathroom visit but once I make that first visit I'm usually then having to pay a visit at least every hour or so [:w]

If it's a night flight and I'm in Y (as all my upcoming HKG/SYD flights are) I will go for an aisle seat every time.

No real preference to which side I sit on but I tend not too sit in the middle section for some reason not sure why though[?]

Commonly referred to as "breaking the seal". You can last the first 1-2 hours on a night out without a visit, but it's like Pringles - once you pop you can't stop. [}:)]

I agree with not sitting in the middle in Y...maybe my need for the window is just too great! I suppose it's good for families though as they can more easily sit together?

And I have to agree with your Pringles comment, Paul If anyone ever sits next to me and I am not in the window seat, for goodness sake do NOT let me drink Coke. I am warning you, you WILL be sorry! [:#]

I will always try and get a window seat on long haul flights as I love watching the ground especially during take-off and the view during the flight. I generally go to the toilet once in every two flights so I don't need to be getting up all the time.
Not bothered on short flights as I just stick my laptop on the table and watch things for the 45 mins or so I can use it.

I prefer an aisle seat where possible - largely due to being 6ft3 tall & the extra leg room I can get out of it.
Wife prefers window seat, so if were on a 3-4-3 config afraid its middle seat for her [:$]
Last few flights booked Ive quickly checked the likes of expedia & researched the plane type where possible & have actually booked specific routes because the airline flying it uses an Airbus. 2 seats, 1 window 1 aisle - wife & I both happy

If you cant get an Airbus, or you cant be bothered checking - surely the best option in Y - bag an exit row! - then it doesnt matter! Air New Zealand were kind enough to let me do that last year for all but 1 of my flights & at no extra charge [y](take note other airlines!!, maybe I just got lucky it was 2am in Auckland when I phoned to book[?]), sadly the slightly narrower seat isnt so good if youve a 42" waist [ii] comfy enough & the legroom made up for it though [^]

Yes. In return I also get to pay for the ticket, and on the unfortunate occasions that I have had to suffer JetStar that also means I get the middle seat.

It's great being told that these low-cost airlines 'aren't so bad' by the other half when she doesn't ever get to try the middle seat.

Confirmed window seat addict here[}:)][}:)] and my preference is the "A" side of the cabin.

Fortunately Mrs Buns prers the aisle seat as it affords the ability for her to stretch her legs.
