Just interested to know what your thoughts might be on this idea. Given that everyone (except UC pax)turns up at check-in with that hopefulness that they have been given an upgrade, what do you think if VS announced that on every flight 2 pax will be given a free upgrade. It would most likely be 2 Y pax being upgraded to PE. I know there is a revenue cost implication, but do you think that as a marketing tool it would be worthwhile? Interested to know you views.

Doesn't it rely on there being 2 seats free in both classes on every flight? [:0]

Bit of a brave (and not exactly commercially viable) idea in my view... [:?]

I like the idea of a 'prize draw' but not sure this is the one to go for.

Not sure it would be much of an incentive in Y where people will consider the odds a bit low to affect their liklihood of buying a ticket.

I always thought some kind of draw onboard would be good as it would be more visible - Not sure about what to offer though - free Y tickets? :-)

hmm not sure its needed as people get randomly upgraded anyway so every flight is a lottery of sorts!

If every flight is a lottery I hope I'm a winner on Sunday.

Though you could take this to the next level, say a year long event, every pax that flies with VS get a chance at a lifetime of upgrade's.

This mean's that for one year VS keep's track of every pax that flies,at the end of the year one pax is picked at random, for the rest of their live's they book in Y they get moved to W,book in W get moved J....long shot at winning but as above it's a lottery and someone has to win.

I've just got home after flying back from JFK with MaxJet last night/this morning. They held a lottery a couple of hours before we got into Stansted and the winner received a MaxJet round trip, valid for a year. Apparently they do this on each flight - seems quite a nice idea.

I will produce a TR for the trip today or tomorrow but, in the meantime, after a solid 5 hours sleep on the flight, I'd say a free round trip with them was definitely worth having.

Best wishes

David

I don't agree with it personally, they get rabid enough just boarding the plane, can you imagine the scrum at checkin to get the free upgrade, the amount of Y pax that I see sneering at the PE and UC pax
as they board don't deserve a free upgrade anyway.

Your going to always have 2 empty seats though, the two that move into PE have to have two free PE seats waiting for them, and they're going to leave two seats empty. Unless of course VA compensated for this and overbooked econ by 2 more than usual.

I think the premium cabins are nice and full of happy fare paying passengers anyway (well most of the time!).

Wouldn't those who have legitimately paid to be in PE be a bit disgruntled though that 2 people have "won the lottery"? It may reduce sales for PE.
