Personally I think its a bit of an old myth now about AmEx acceptance - yeah a while back the acceptance was not very good, but I rarelyu have to use another card nowadays. For travel (hotels, flights etc) I have no issues at all with AmEx acceptance.

Thanks,
Richard

But not on everyday stuff - food shopping, for example. And I think I'm right that it's not among the usual accepted suspects in many chain stores. Is it? As it looks as though the new card is going to be linked to Amex, I might well have to switch. I know we don't know the deal for sure yet, but most of my spending (and hence miles) is racked up by purchases other than flights. I'd be rather sad to have to go back and get a BA card..........[:#]

I wonder if they'll actually bother though - I've emailed this address before, about other stuff, and haven't ever got a reply...

So what will happen for existing card holders?

If I'm being thick here, please feel free to slap me...[}:)]

Good question CSS - I'd be interested in knowing the answer too :D Hopefully current customers can continue using the existing card, but what happens on the renewal date [?]

Well at the end of the day it is still MBNA. I am sure that they are smart enough to still keep the Mastercard.

If that was the case wouldn't the AMEX be an addition rather than a replacement. I am going to be as cynical as CSS and getting prepared to see the MC account cancelled when the AMEX comes online.[n]

Would they, realistically, run 2 different cards???? If they were to, would it be on a different basis? Hmmm, I'm very interested to see which way this goes.

I just decided to check on this thread again when I noticed it's popularity. Anywho, I was browsing google to see if VS mistakenly launched anything and I found this:

LINK

I'm not sure if this is just the cached page of the old credit card, but I didn't remember that one being only available to FC members. If it is for the new card, it looks like they have the 2 miles/pound policy still.

EDIT: By the way, if you try putting uk.virginmoney.com/vaa-credit-card/ into your browser it comes up forbidden.

Thats the old card. If you press the "apply" button it takes you to the current Virgin Money CC site which does not include the mile earning version

Even if it was the real one, clicking on apply would still probably do that since they would have had everyone routed to an alternative site. The only thing that's cached is the first page.

OK..Where is LRoM when I need him?

Seeing as it's amex..anyone know if we are going to be able to abuse it over here in the states? or is it just going to be a UK release?

It would be nice if there was a US Virgin Credit Card, but Amex is rarely accepted, at least around where I live. Visa/mastercard would be much better.

Diners Club cards issued outside the USA and Canada are not Mastercards, and the rewards program is completely different. I was responding to the previous messages wishing for a US Mastercard or Visa that earns Flying Club miles by pointing out that such a card already exists and is more attractive than the BA Visa issued by Chase because the points can be converted to miles on a couple dozen airlines.

I've just received a text message

"As a valued Virgin Atlantic Credit Card holder you'll be receiving an exclusive invitation by post from Virgin Money and Virgin Atlantic in the next few days"

Looks like all will be revealed soon.

Don't think I actually gave them my mobile number, so I have a strange feeling they won't be texting me with this offer ;)

Giving MBNA a mobile number is quite a good idea, in case they notice any odd activity on your account. They can contact you and find out if it was you, or someone else spending your money. Could stop your card being declined.
