Yup - exactly the same.

The only difference is that the screens are bigger, although on some of the newer configs, the difference isn't actually that great.

There are DVD players which would not be generally available outside UC (except in the case of technical failure of IFE) which a selections of DVD's

If you end up on a LGW / MAN 747, you actually get a pretty poor deal on the IFE in UC then, i.e. same as the rest of the plane & headphones that are not much cop either. Do VS carry many DVD players on the aircraft for the use of UC pax / is the presence of the DVD players "advertised" in any way to UC? Or, are they just held back for when the IFE on someones UCS seat plays up?

On American Airlines in Business (on a 767) you get your own personal DVD player & Bose noise cancelling headphones, which are good. That said, if you fly an American 777, you get the same IFE as the rest of the plane in Business, but still with the Bose headphones.

Had to use a DVD player once, they had a surpisingly good selection of movies for something that's meant to just be a back up.
TBH, I think that UC pax from LGW should always be offered as the selection is much better. However, they do run on batteries.

You would have thought they could get them to operate from the PC EmPower socket?

They should be able to get an adapter to use the in-seat power on the UCS, but if the DVD's are also onboard for use of PE / Y pax whose IFE screen goes "technical", then the battery power will be needed - certainly in the case of a Y pax on any VS flight, as there is no in-seat power in Y on VS.

On a sideline, I wonder how long it will be before VS start to put some in-seat power into the Y cabin? Quite a few of the American carriers have it back there on at least a few rows throughout the cabin.
