security at lax

Hi - last time I flew out from LAX - security was painful - it took nearly 2 hours to get through (so missed my drinks at the bar - thankfully not flight though).

I noticed there was a separate line for selected people. A lady was checking the boarding passes of everyone and a selected few got into a special very short line.

Is this the same as fasttrack in UK? If so how do you get into this line ? Is it only for UC passengers or can PE and/or gold members use this 'special' line?

IIRC it is for First and Business pax only, not sure if a Gold FC card would help.

I think you will find the very short line is for selected pax to go through more intense security screening. Having been selected with my husband on every flight out of LAX and LAs I have done I would not wish it on my worst enemy it is an awful procedure and while I have no problem participating I think this could be approached in a different way. Especially when they stand you inside a machine and do not tell you what it is going to do. It then puffs air round you under high pressure (v. loud and shocking).

So def not a fast track or priortiy line trust me!

Fast track on EXIT from UK is for UC and AU pax only. If you are AU, but not on a UC ticket they put a sticker on your boarding card. On the way into the UK its for UC pax without an EU passport (the EU line is as fast, if not faster, than the fast track line). Crew hand out 'pink slips' on board to any UC pax who has a non-EU passport.

There was a poster around here who was saying that crew will give pink slips to all sorts of people, but was complaining he couldn't get one. But that was a while ago, and he doesn't seem to have posted in a while. Wonder where he went?[}:)][:X]

If you are gold card VS you should show this card along with your boarding pass when you go through security in Terminal 2 at LAX. They have a security person at the bottom of the escalator (the first person who checks your boarding card) who will highlight your "status" if it doesn't show up on your boarding card. Also, show your gold card to the person at the top of the stairs. He/she will make it easier for you to get into the "preferred" line which serves all "elite" members of all the carriers flying out of T-2 at LAX.

Thanks for clarifying Chuck, I know I have been directed to the Fast Track line at T2 when travelling in UC but wasn't sure if the FC Gold also worked [y]

You can't be blamed for that, Bazz. IIRC there are no signs that speak to the preferred status line, just a couple of grumpy ladies.[:(]

Will show that gold card to everyone in future (though feel a bit stupid). But anything beats having to line up there - and why does the ac never seem to work where VS fly from!!

And yes they certainly are grumpy old ladies there.
