They use a few 777's and 747's on that route. My eyes might be deceiving be but I saw a 757 once. I know this for a fact. I see quiet a few because I live near JFK and Im in the climb path and glide path of most translantic flights of British Airways and Virgin atlantic.

Not a 767?[:?]

BTW, thanks Nick and Decker[y]

BA has never used a 757 on a US flight. They fly 777s and 767s to EWR and 777s, 767s, and 747s to LHR.

I don't think so, as far as I know BA only use their 757s for European or domestic flights.

BA do charter out aircraft from time to time so maybe this could be an explanation. Or aircraft could have been in storage or something and re-fueling on the way back.

I suppose so. But I saw it with my own eyes..Twice. It had that small shape as a 757 with Ba livery. I even took a photo of it outbound. That I will process and show to you soon.

I'm sorry to keep doubting you, but I've really never heard of BA doing this, charter or otherwise. That picture would be interesting to see though...

Not wanting to sounds like a a.netter or nerd but I didn't think that BA had any ETOP rated 757s unless it was on a ferry flight?????

I seem to recall that BA did fly 757's across the pond from Birmingham. Had a "google" but cant find any evidence on this though.

Hm, I found a picture on A.net of a BA 757 at Toronto with a comment saying it was lifting off to go to JFK. Maybe there was some kind of UK-YYZ-JFK flight.

Didn't a BA 757 run MAN-JFK going back a while?? Cannot remember a 757 operating out of LHR though.

Hey you just could be right.. It might of not been to LHR but Im sure they had a few 757 flights out of here.

If I remember rightly, they used to do BHX-JFK-YYZ, and GLA-JFK-BOS, both daily with 757s. Neither are operated any more, but CO fly with 757s from EWR to both UK cities. The MAN flight has been a 767 for quite a while.

On another note, I see the new VS flight to JFK was cancelled yesterday, along with this morning's return. Not a great start...

Aww that must of been a downer for them. Imagine how money was lost. But meh VS Can recover. I put nothing past them.

BA did, for a while, operate 757s into JFK from BHX/GLA, as mavml rightly says.

They used a specific ETOPS-certified sub-fleet (only 3 or 4 aircraft) for these flights, which ISTR were also fitted with a multi-channel audio and mainscreen video IFE system, and a "proper" J-class cabin (for that era, anyway), as opposed to "convertible" seats used on the European fleet.

The MAN-JFK flight is still operated with a 767-300ER, and at least one of the EWR rotations from LHR is booked on the 767. The MAN aircraft was almost always G-BNWH, until it went to be "dusked" (fitted with Club World flat beds, etc) - it now seems to be any 767 from the International fleet, and these are rotated as required for maintenance.

Cheers!
