its the article - it talks about improvements to PE and I cannot find any improvements - everything listed is - I beleive- already available to PE passengers:D

I think you guys are not reading this correctly the article states clearly WHAT YOU GET in premium NOT WHAT YOU WILL BE GETTING IN THE NEW IMPROVED PREMIUM CABIN. The article is simply announcing improvements without detailing them. So itÕs in reality a NO NEWS, NEWS ARTICAL.

errm - no need to shout dear chap - and this is copied from the article header ( hope its not breaking any copywrite)

"Planned improvements to Virgin's Premium Economy service are part of a three-year strategy to boost its share of the business travel market."

Planned improvements?

I think Decker is referring to the dumbing down of the Upper Class Amenity kit - PE's kit is very good in comparrison!

No, I got what he meant - and its nothing that Decker has said - its the article - it talks about improvements to PE and I cannot find any improvements - everything listed is - I beleive- already available to PE passengers:D

Isn't the Amenity kit in PE the same as the Economy Amenity kit ? A while since I bothered taking one off when flying (used to when flying to a friend in LA for her to pass on to a women's refuge) but back in April we got pretty much that content at the back of the plane.

Agree with AndyK about the snide tattoos and piercing comment, but found amusement in the "or are constrained by company policy" comment as if this would mean trading down to PE. I work for a leading software company and we never, ever, get to fly anything other than economy on the company dollar. PE is a real luxury if you can swing it (e.g. the client agrees to pay the cost).

Ok,the one thing that I get out of the article is that VS is on a three year mission to get more biz pax,to do this they are removing the pillow's that the pax liked from the UC cabin, taking everything out of the amenity kit, raising prices across the board and lowering the quality of the food..sounds like a plan to me [B)]

But they are going to install new seats in PE on the airbus jet's.

If I have said it once I have said it a million Steve Ridgeway know's nothing about running an airline.

Sorry about shouting, the article is announcing improvements as pointed out but in no way does the article suggest or detail what the improvements are.
All I am saying is that the article is being misread as many comments saying "I canÕt see anything thatÕs new". The article does not suggest that the outline of services in premium are the new improvements. It does however state what you get in Premium Economy and not what you will be getting in the improved Premium Economy. ItÕs all in the way we read.

Anyway it does not matter much I am sure as the only way we will know what the improvements or destructive cutbacks in the premium product will be through press releases from the mother ship V-s or from a leak on this site by one of the V-S employees.

And don't forget the flowers on the bar!!! They set the scene as soon as you walked on the plane and made everyone turning left take a second look!!!

Obviously, from Virgin's apparent customer feedback, pretty much all UC passengers would rather spend the entire flight sitting upright working on their laptops, thus none of these fancy luxuries are rerquired that may distract from work.
To quote Del-Boy as a yuppie from Only Fools And Horses (episode where he falls through an open bar in the wine bar with Trigger), "Dinner is for wimps" - that probably explains the food too.....

for those that were not flying virgin 10 years or so ago, PE was originally called Mid-Class but was changed to PE so as to not dilute business class, ie UC traffic

I'm sure a lot of people would be offended by the below Mid-Class level obviously being called Lower Class - sounds too much like steerage on the Titanic for example.
At least with Economy, it sounds like you are gets a good cheap price on a seat etc rather than being pretty much told "you're peasant scum" or something not quite as brash.

Because it is a form of sterotyping that is frequently far from the mark and thus unwelcome. People with piercings and tattoos are not automatically from a lower demographic grouping and a service oriented industry should realise that.

Further, I (generally) travel Economy and am neither pierced nor tattooed. Have I been missing a new pre-flight service offering ?

I'm heavily tattooed and have a few piercings. But have never seen anyone else in economy like that. US immigration seem to think tattoos are a bit 'iffy' too.

I managed to click on the link ok first time around.
As a matter of interest to you, I flew PE on the fated VS005 last Tuesday that landed in Fort Lauderdale but, that is another story. After boarding no newspaper was offered to me. I asked a crew member for a paper & was told that from that day onwards newspapers would not be offered to PE on board. Apparently, there was a pile of newspapers just before leaving the waiting area & PE customers were supposed to help themselves. No anoucement was given out so how was anyone supposed to know. The crew member did find me a paper from UC but, I was the only person to obtain a paper. On the return journey very few UK papers were offered but, loads of Miami Heralds I think it was.

I am sure you are right. And your level headed response is a credit. However I have to agree with decker. The following things do not necessarily make you scum:
1) Tatoos
2) Ear rings
3) Long hair
4) Etc

In fact all of the specifics have been used in VS UC advertisments.

I find people who talk to others down their noses with upper crust accents annoying at a minimum. People who publish such tripe are below contempt in my book.

While it may have been a light hearted comment, so are Bernard Manning's Black jokes. I am afraid I (personal view) find little humour in either.

But none of this has anything to do with VS. So, being a model moderator I will immidiately censor myself as soon as I have posted. You may rest assured I have given myself a good ticking off for going OT! :D

I'd LOVE to land at FLL! My office is 5 minutes away. Took me 90 minutes to get from Hollywood to Miami last Friday because of the usual delays/accidents on I95. What was the story there? I was there at the time, didn't hear anything about this.

First post here, so hope this comes out alright!
