Virgin used to fly to Chicago and it is rumoured that they will do so again. The flights stopped in the general downturn after 9/11. Routes are related to the number of aircraft available and although several are starting up this year, like Dubai, Jamaica and St Lucia from Manchester - more planes are needed before other routes are resurrected or started.

Try the search tool to find previous discussions and you should find several threads in which routes are discussed.

Yes, American used to fly BHX-ORD as well, but this was scrapped around the same time.

Well, a friend of a friend has thier roster for next month and is on a ORD Promotions flight....I'll find out more as i would have thought there would be more than 1 month lead in time if the route was re-commencing.

I read a post on A.net that mentioned some kind of promotional flight by VS to ORD.

That is fantastic news, I hope a VS staffer can give us confirmation soon of when schedules will resume to ORD. What a great city ...

Hmm, this weekend would be a great time todo the promo flight with the Taste of Chicago and all.

I also retract my earlier comment about the Palmer House. The Hilton Garden Inn is much better in that is features a more personal touch and is closer (two blocks) to the Mag. Mile, Pizzaria Uno is around the corner and surrounded with a bunch of other food/goods places. You do have the option to stay at the Palmer House as it is a better location if your business is well, trading options [!]

I have stayed at the Palmer House and was quite impressed, liked the location in the loop(the site of the Blues Brothers hotel is just around the corner). We got upgraded to the most enormous suite I have ever seen[y]Junior and I could race flat out in the living room:D.

VS are flying to various USA destinations to line up with SRB's month long trip to promote Virgin America!!!

I'm kind of thinking he shouldn't get involved with promoting VAM. It might lead more people to believe that it's not an American company.

My guess would be, about as much as 48 x toothbrushes and moisturing tubes per flight for the next 6 months... [:w][}:)]

Can you really imagine SRB not being there to promote V America?? Why the Americans have to be so anal about foreign ownership amazes me.

As for cost, it'll be less than putting a complete heap of rubbish into "J" class (J2000)and calling it a seat!!!!!

The VS promo flights to ORD have slipped through the net over the last few days given other events elsewhere!!! [:?]

VS39 operated on 12/08/06. The return sector was a day flight leaving ORD early on the 13th - getting back to LHR at 20.00ish the same evening.

Lets hope that they were a success!!!!! [^][y]

I am fairly sure it wan't a revenue flight - However, I am slightly curious by why VS market their product by sending an a/c to ORD for 12 hours, it seems a very expensive exercise???

It was a previous base and the VS brand is well established - I could maybe understand if they had announced a start date for the route, anyone shed any light???
