Howdy,

I am usually a QF traveller in First Class or Business, and thought that I would use some miles from my Amex card to try Virgin Atlantic. I am in Sydney, and Amex has just become a redemption partner in Australia which is great.. (and really good conversion!)

I have had a good read of the FAQ's etc, so see that i will be on an A340-600, and 8A looks like the best seat if I can get it.

Are there any things that I should make sure that I do as soon as I get into the aircraft (book a massage etc?) - the bar also looks interesting. I am flying between SYD and HKG, and have been to the CX "Wing" Lounge before - what is the lounge like there?

Would appreciate any tips!.

And Howdy to you too! Welcome to the site.

Don't worry, all will be made clear by the flight staff when you board.

8a is a great seat, and you have clearly been looking at our seat guide. Glad it was of use. I assume you can pre-request your choice of seat at http://www.virgin-atlantic.com with your e-ticket number or confirmation number. Of course it may change on the day, but that is unlikely.

Once you have taken your seat the In Flight Beauty Therapist will come and talk you through the treatments available. The IFBT has a quota for health and safety reasons, and this may mean she cannot do all the treatments. There is some discussion on the site about which is best. The massage is quite good, although not strong enough for some. Because it is the most popular I suspect, and because it is very clearly on quota, it seems to be the one where there is the highest chance of not getting your treatment. The "Hot hands" maybe a little girly for you, but you stand a better chance of getting the treatment. For my money it is the one I would go for. There are some others, which are aimed much more at the cleanse and tone end of the market if I recall correctly.

The Senior supervisor should also introduce them self near the start of the flight. Do make sure you ask him or her any questions you have.

You can eat anything you want at any time, although you may get the impression that the crew would like you to eat in the main meal serving! If that is not when you want to eat, just let them know and it will be fine.

The 346 whould have V-port which is a really good on demand entertainment system. There is a description of its function on this site, and on the virgin site you can get a preview of some of the film billing. However on your flight there will be a much larger, indeed huge, choice of films and TV programs. There genuinely is something for everyone I think.

The Bar is a great place to chat to crew and other pax. Oh, and for a drink!

Soon after boarding, if it is a night flight, you will be offered a sleep suit. If it is a day flight you can request one whenever you want. Most people tend to change into it early on so that clothes do not get creased, or have G&T spilt on them ;)

There is a lengthy debate on the site about the amenity kit, which has unfortunately been cut back (to proportions that any accountant would have to call magnificent). There are extra supplies in the loo, and you may want to grab what extras you need early in the flight, as there have been some reports of extras running out fairly quickly. This is of course exactly what VS did not intend to happen, but IMO pretty predictable with human nature being what it is.

Afraid I am not able to help on the lounges, but someone will be along who can. It may take a couple of days as it is a Sunday today and the site is not normally that busy.

flytoomuch,
May I second Jeremy's warm welcome; we're glad you're on board.

At SYD Upper Class passengers are guests of Air New Zealand at its International Lounge in Terminal C. Have a look here for information on the NZ lounge.

Regards,

Howdy,

Much appreciated - the tickets came through today so am off to HKG in a few weeks.

Thanks for the tips about the Massage - at this stage they are saying the loads are quite light, and there should be a good chance to get a treatment.

Can't wait, will let you know how it all goes, ironicaly the day after I get back I am heading off on Qantas Business Class - will make it nice and eay to compare.

Cheers

now I am confused

Just a quirk of a certain member;)

Welcome to the site:D

If its your first time, I'd try and make the most of your UCS experience and try out everything you can - don't just sit in your seat;)

Welcome flytoomuch to V-Flyer! Glad to have to on board.

They have some really nice little red cushions in the LHR CH that are almost identical to the old UCS cushions. Tempted to lift one..[:?]

Also I normally just ask they IFBT to do whatever treatment that she can due to the heath and safetly rules. I like surprises too plus I tend to get a treatment. :D

To clarify Flytoomuch. There used to be little red cushions in upperclass, but sadly that is no longer the case. Prieffer has made it his pet issue, as he was especially fond of them.

Being a 'comunity' there are obviously some in jokes that go around, and this was one of them. Sorry if it confused.

Just remember to take a cushion on the flight with you from the clubhouse! ;)

Don't tease Preiffer! This only counts if the red cushion actually came from Upper Class. No cheesy imitations.[}:)]

Probably the same way a blanket with a "do not remove from aircraft" patch on it is sitting on the back seat of my car right now ;)

Monkey, this topic has been discussed recently is a few different threads, the best thing to do is to use this search function and search for headphones it will bring up all the topics and will answer your question and then some.

Well thats what I thought, although not flown UC myself yer, t'other half has and he has always had the "normal" UC headphones, thats why I thought it was strange that the poster had the same as his Y trip, wonder if there was a problem or they ran out[?]
