Just booked reward flights to DXB for next April & was told by FC that I'll need to give them a call on return from DXB to have our miles added - something to do "the system doesn't automatically add them on reward bookings".

Is this the norm, I'm sure in the past we've been credited automatically on reward flights?

Also - wasn't overly impressed when she said that the eticket email may not reach me until a week before departure. She said that they've got a new system allowing them to debit credit cards at time of booking but in my case (with my VS AMEX!!) the transaction wouldn't go through - she would need to ask another department to process it. Basically, and of course understandably, until payment has been processed the eticket can't be released. I really don't get it, every time I've booked flights with FC there's always been a system whereby they debit your card over phone at time of booking [?]

No big deal....hey being let of payment for months is fine. I guess my point is that I've just come off the phone and, whilst happy that I've secured reward flight, the FC experience was decidedly amateurish [n]

Oh to be gold & be allowed to call the Premier Team ;)

Cheers, James

Reward flight? Sorry, can you be more specific as to what sort of reward you have, as you dont usually get any miles with a reward flight booking? Are you talking about an S->G or something?

Thanks,
Sarah

My guess would be you've upgraded a ticket, right?

In which case, yes there's a glitch - the system won't AUTOMATICALLY recognise the revenue part of the ticket, and therefore won't therefore the correct amount of miles for the ticket you PAID for.

As Sarah says, there are no miles for the reward part (if any/all) of the ticket, but you can call them up afterwards to get the paid element added if this is an upgrade you're refering to.

Thanks Paul & Sarah for your replies. Apologies, I'm getting my terminology wrong, I thought reward was a general term covering upgraded as well as free (100 % miles paid) flights. In our case we paid for Economy L's and upgraded to UC for 60K miles each return.

In fact the agent I made the booking with earlier just called me back to check something re the CDC's (also booked with miles!) which was sorted out fine. Whilst on I asked her why the flight doesn't show automatically on our list of booked flights when logged on to FC. I explained that it shows our LAX flight for September but not the DXB flight as booked this morning. I said that I could however retrieve the flight by entering name, date, PNR..etc. She didn't seem to know anything about flights showing automatically even though I tried to explain that the system should locate the booked flight from my FC number. She just kept saying you have to enter your reference number and so long as you can find it that way what's the problem?

I suppose no real problem, I've accessed the booking and selected seats but, again, all this does nothing to instil confidence in the person I'm dealing with. Perhaps she's new and this is a one off - let's hope so.

Anyone know why our flight doesn't showing alongside our LAX flight after clicking on Update Booking?

Thats pretty standard for non-rev bookings in my experience im afraid. As you were told though, you can access them and make changes using your booking reference so not all is lost.

And as for upgrades, i have always managed to get the original miles credited to my account without chasing them? I have always booked though FC and made sure my FC number is on my boarding pass.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks again Sarah. Well all of a sudden our DXB flight is now listed under the LAX one, will save future hassle of needing to enter ref number etc manually!

Cheers, James

PS: Sarah, you mentioned non-rev bookings and this possibly being a reason for our flight not showing. Are non-rev flights ones that aren't fully paid for in cash? In our case we paid for L class economy and then used miles to upgrade. Does this make us a non-rev case? Maybe semi non-rev ;) Thanks.

Oh dont try and make sense of my lexicon! LOL

Yes, in general, any flight i seem to book that is not full revenue does not automatically show up in 'Manage my Booking', whether its a full reward or upgrade reward, i always have to manually enter the booking reference to retrieve it. But that may well be just me of course.

Thanks,
Sarah

The VS website frequently comes unstuck with non-rev and part-rev bookings, as well as anything ticketed on paper rather than e-tickets, in my experience.

Sarah, you're definitely not alone!

I'm slightly surprised VS don't have different buckets for non-rev and part-rev rewards.

Mike

I recently flew with the Daught on 1 outright G and one L to G - sure enough, I had to contact VS to have the miles and tier points added for the underlying fare - but it was no major hassle. Unfortunately, you can't do this via the missing miles page but was relatively painless anyway. The miles were added one minute, and then spent towards 2 more G's to Dubai next Easter!
