I am a bit green here, but know I will get some useful input on this forum.

I will be flying to San Diego next year. I know there are no direct flights (that I am aware of) and Continental seems to be a good option as Virgin Partners. My question is, if I fly Continental do I still qualify for Frequent Flyer Points? Would I be better off booking the whole way with them with a stop, or flying with Virgin and picking up a flight with Continental? If I did book with Virgin can I book the whole way through or would I need to do it separately?

Price of course comes into the equation and any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and regards.

Hi,

I was looking at SAN recently for a conference but then couldn't make it:

- Fly CO all the way, yes you would earn the miles. # of tier points is less in Y though, 2 instead of 4 return.

- Fly VS to LAX or SFO and then onwards with CO - would be my choice as I'd get to use all the usual VS stuff and get my mileage bonus. Yes you can book this with VS, they may even be able to get you a thru or VUSA fare this way too.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Phil

You could always connect with Delta down to SAN from either SFO or LAX. I've done it with UAL, but that was because I wanted some *A mileage...

Alternatively, a colleague of mine couldn't make the connections she wanted and had a town car pick her up from LAX and drive her down to San Diego. The difference in price isn't huge and she arrived only 30 mins after me eventhough she'd left LHR 3 hours after me!

Cheers

Richard and Buffers

Thanks for the responses. They make sense to me. I must admit, I hadn't thought of the LAX and car to San Diego option. There may be a few of us, so we could share a lift down too.

Cheers.

Phil, let me know if you want a recommendation for a top-notch car service.

Thanks Buffers. That would be great. We are not going until next year (planning a cruise out of San Diego), but it would be good to tuck the info away. If you don't want to post it publicly on this forum, send me an e-mail, [email protected].

Thanks.

Another option - maybe not the cheapest, but could be a lot more fun, could be take VS direct to Vegas and then AmWest to San Diego!

You get miles for your AmWest flights and can arrange a stop over in LAS, what could be better? ;);)

No probs, Phil. They're called Planet Limo -- +1 310 312 3331. A friend, who lives in LA, turned me onto them and they're spot on!

All the best

Thanks Paul. Great help.

Nick, I like your suggestion too, but will be on a tight time schedule. Maybe next time [8D].
